Shop wisely

When you’re having a fall baby, shopping for your little one's first outfits can feel like a real challenge. You might wonder how many warm-weather outfits to buy and how many cool-weather outfits to buy. Here’s a simple tip — babies can always wear clothes that are a little big and can never wear clothes that are too small. Clothes can also be layered to add warmth. So, when you’re shopping buy your basic newborn sized clothes in short sleeves and then stock up on jackets, long-sleeved outfits, and pants for layering in larger sizes.

Pack a variable hospital bag

Fall is tricky. It could be warm when you head to the hospital to deliver and cool when you leave or it could be just the opposite. Pack a variable hospital bag with cool and warm going home outfits for you and babe and you won’t be left trying to find something just right at the last minute.

Stretch your maternity wardrobe

While it might start to get cool at the tail end of your pregnancy, you probably don’t want to buy a full cold weather maternity wardrobe with just a few weeks to go until delivery. Instead, stretch your maternity wardrobe by layering up or, if you absolutely must buy something, aim to buy second-hand clothes that don’t cost as much as brand new items often do.

Prepare for cold and flu season

When your baby will be born in the fall it’s important to consider that cold and flu season will likely begin while they’re still in the vulnerable newborn phase. Be sure to institute good hand washing rules for guests right away so they’re already in the habit when cold and flu season begins.
