4 Fun Family Dates You’ll Love
With money tight and the cold weather looming over us, I know that we are spending a lot of time at home as a family. Watching an endless stream of TV isn’t good for anybody, and the kids get bored playing with the same toys over and over. But there are some family activities that will make having a family date night in not only affordable, but also fun for everyone!
Here are four family fun activities that everybody of all ages can participate in and enjoy.
Board Games, Bingo, and Dice
My kids play so many video games via the iPad, computer, and game consoles that good old fashion board games don’t get used very often anymore. Life, Monopoly, and Sorry are all family friendly games that kids of all ages can play with help. Bring out Yahtzee or LRC for fun dice games. Card games are fun too…Uno has always been a big hit with my family, as is penny poker.
Make Your Own Pizza and Popcorn
With a variety of fresh and ready-made pizza doughs now available in various sizes, every family member can make their own creation! Prep and lay out various toppings, a couple of different sauces, and let the fun begin!
It’s much less expensive than eating out or ordering pizza in, and the kids will have a blast making their own culinary creations. Kids also like to make popcorn on the stove and watch it pop. For a fun popcorn recipe, check out my Candy Popcorn – there’s never any left!
Dance the Night Away
Have a Dancing with the Stars dance off! Kids love to dance and taking turns judging and selecting music would make for instant fun.
Choose a variety of music from mom and dad’s favorite 80’s and 90’s hits to the hits of the day, golden oldies, jazz, and more. It’s a great way to introduce kids to different music styles and genres. You can even teach the kids old school dance moves like the Running Man, and the kids can teach you their latest dance moves.
Camp in the Backyard
Get out the sleeping bags and tents and camp right in your own backyard! Tell ghost stories. Look at the stars. Enjoy each other’s company! You can roast marshmallows over a real campfire, fire pit, or the barbeque. If that’s not an option you can make some s’mores bars; they taste just like the real thing.
One final note about date night: you may want to consider setting some ground rules. Examples include the TV and cell phones must be off, each family member is expected to be there and participate, and no arguing allowed.
Does your family have a date night? If so, what is your family’s favorite date night idea?
