Is Stress Affecting Your Family? Try This
Children are often one of the greatest joys of their parents' lives. They can also be one of their greatest sources of stress and when parents are stressed it can be harder to keep the patience they value and need. 46% of parents report losing patience with or yelling at their children because of stress, which can lead to stressed-out kids, regretful parents, and even worse behavior by kids.
To help keep your family life as stress-free as possible, we reached out to experts at The Little Gym to find out how parents can incorporate fun activities that lower stress in their everyday lives.
Color with your kids
Coloring books for adults are all the rage and with good reason. Coloring is a form of art therapy that can lower stress and anxiety and help and help keep you focused on the present moment instead of regretting the past or stressing about the future. Next time your little ones break out the crayons, break out your own set, put on some tunes, and get scribbling!
Try out sensory activities
Whether you prefer a sand table, a water table, or a bean table, participating in sensory activities can be calming for both kids and adults. Work with your child to sort beans, make a sand castle, or pour water from one container to another and watch the stress melt away for both of you.
Getting outside has been shown to relieve stress for both kids and adults. To make getting outside simple, consider taking some of your regular indoor activities outdoors. Read a book together outside, eat dinner on a picnic blanket, or color and play with toys on the porch instead of in the living room.
When you’re feeling stressed, nothing beats exercising for its stress-relieving potential. You don’t have to go for a run or hit the gym to see the positive effects of exercise though. Instead of exercising on your own, consider playing tag with your kids, jumping rope together in the driveway, or taking a long walk together.
If the weather is not conducive to outdoor movement consider having an indoor dance party or heading to an indoor gym like The Little Gym where you can move and ditch your stress together!
