Every 3 Minutes, Another Family Gets The News

The news that someone they love has been diagnosed with a blood cancer. That means that in the year 2017, “An estimated combined total of 172,910 people in the US are expected to be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.”

And the unfortunate reality is that “approximately every 9 minutes, someone in the US dies from a blood cancer.”

So what can be done? The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or LLS, is at the forefront of answering that question. They are funding research and treatments to save lives. They are actively supporting patients and families in finding treatment options and emotional support. They are leading the way to the someday when there is a cure for all blood cancers.

It's especially important work they're doing for the parents who get the devastating news that their child has been diagnosed with cancer. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common cancer in children. While research and treatments have improved the survival rate tremendously in the past five decades, leukemia is still “the second leading cause of cancer death among children, adolescents and young adults younger than 20 years.” That is why LLS has put over $40 million into life-saving research this fiscal year.

But they can't do their important work without help. That's why they need volunteers, donations, and for voices to spread their mission to raise awareness.

Right now a family is learning that someone they love has been diagnosed with cancer. Right now they are scared, confused, and wondering what the future will hold. It is within our power to help. To ease those fears. To offer resources and support. To move towards a world where the answers are a cure, a future, hope.

If you want to be part of what LLS is doing, you can start right now. EverydayFamily will be sponsoring the LLS Light the Night walk in Orange County and LA for the 6th year in a row. We hope you can join us, by walking, by donating, or by sharing information about blood cancer and LLS with those you love.
