Energy Vampires

Energy vampires constantly suck energy while slowly draining our wallets.

There are little vampires that lurk in our homes. These little suckers disguise themselves well, so well in fact, that we only see them as our computers, cell phone chargers, microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, televisions, and other electrical items that we use every single day. They are referred to as energy vampires because they constantly extract energy, even when they’re not being used, which costs us money.

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has a chart that lists the amount of energy our things use when they are on standby. It’s kind of interesting to see how much even a cell phone charger uses. Check it out to see what the vampires in your home are using.

  1. I saved a lot of energy by putting these vampires on power strips and turning the strips off when I am not using them.
