DIY Love Note Frame

I don't know about you, but I'm always at a loss about what to get my husband for Valentine's Day. He isn't into a romantic getaway for two, we'd rather not go out on the same night everyone else is fighting for a spot at the restaurants, and buying him books is getting old.

When I saw this post featuring an “I love you because” frame, I thought what a cute idea — a frame you can put a love note on – not just on Valentine's Day! And it even works for writing a little note to my son, who is just learning to read.

This DIY project is super easy and took me only minutes to put together once I bought the supplies.

You will need these supplies:

  • 1 page of scrapbook paper (doesn't have to be with old-fashioned handwriting)
  • 1 page of vellum
  • 1 frame (I bought mine for $2 at the thrift store)
  • 1 heart-shaped foam sticker (optional)
  • 1 dry erase marker
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

Love Note Frame Tutorial:

  1. Open up the frame and take out the glass to put it on the scrapbook page. Find which part of the scrapbook paper you want to show through the frame and trace around the glass, then cut it out.
  2. Write “I you because” and add a few lines under it in a Word document. You could also just add the word “love” or find a clip art heart to add to the sentence. I had just bought foam sticker hearts at the craft store and decided to use one of them for an added touch. Or you could just cut a heart out of craft paper.
  3. Print out that sentence on the vellum page and put the glass on top of that page, just like you did on the scrapbook paper. Trace around the glass with your pencil and cut out the vellum.
  4. Add the heart-shaped foam sticker or craft paper to the vellum page to complete the sentence. Then just put the two pages together, put them into the frame, and close it.
  5. Now all you have to do is write a short love note on the outside of the glass with a dry erase marker and wrap up the frame as a gift for Valentine's Day, or find a prominent spot for the frame in your home.
  6. You could just leave the dry erase marker next to it to encourage your family members to leave each other little love notes.

What will your first love note be?
