Ditch the Daycare Guilt: 4 Ways Daycare is Helping Your Baby Thrive

As a working parent, you’ve got a lot going on. You wake up early to get your family ready, you bust your butt at work all day, and – when the time comes to head home – you manage to fit a day’s worth of love, connection, and joy into the four hours you spend with your little one before tucking them into bed. In addition to all that you also take care of the house, manage your family's schedule, and juggle how you’ll advance in your career with how you’ll make sure your kiddos stay happy, healthy, and growing. Even though you’re a rock star at home and at work, outside forces might sometimes make you question whether you’re doing a disservice to your kids by working or whether you’re missing out on vital parts of their childhood.

If you’re feeling daycare guilt, it might be time to flip the way you’re thinking about your childcare and identify all the awesome benefits your kid is reaping by being there. Ditch the daycare guilt and check out the ways that daycare is awesome for kids!

Daycare helps kids do better at school later on

If your kiddo spends time in daycare when they’re young, chances are they’re going to outpace their peers academically later on. A study from the National Institute of Health found that kids who spent time in a high-quality daycare in their early days tend to do better academically than their peers who stayed at home. Cheers for all the great grades and school success to come!

Daycare boosts kids social skills

Daycare provides kids with all sorts of opportunity to interact with their peers and learn how to play, problem-solve, and work well with others. While many stay-at-home parents arrange lots of play dates for their kids, children who go to daycare or preschool regularly clock lots more hours (and opportunity for socialization) than their at-home peers.

Daycare allows you to boost your family's economic situation

While being home might be nice, daycare allows you to work, which no doubt boosts your family’s financial situation. Your income might be what’s keeping your family afloat and helping you pay your basic bills or it might be the thing that allows you to take special, memory-making vacations. No matter how you spend the money that you’re able to make because of daycare, it certainly improves your family’s finances.

Daycare offers your child a balanced schedule

Stay-at-home parents are awesome, but they’re no more skilled at creating and facilitating a schedule of balanced activities for their kiddos than anyone else might be. At daycare, your child will have a chance to play at a variety of centers, be read to, sing songs, cook, dance, sing, and move their body throughout the day. That range of activities will help your child explore and develop all their interests!
