Got Crafty Kids? Check Out These Homemade Ornaments!
Many families have special holiday traditions that they repeat and enjoy every year. In my family, we’ve started the tradition of making (or helping our kiddos) make a special ornament to hang on the tree each year. While it can sometimes be messy, I know that we’ll be nothing but grateful when as our collection of homemade ornaments grows along with our kids. If you’re looking for special tradition or just want to complete a family craft this year, check out the ideas below for homemade ornaments even little kids can make!
Hand or Footprint Ornament
If you’ve got a brand new baby (or one who's just not quite ready to craft) consider starting your ornament collection with a hand or footprint you can hang on your tree. While you can certainly dip your baby’s hand or foot in paint and print it on cardstock, consider making a heartier ornament by using a baby print kit. These homemade ornaments will be great to look back on over the years.
Painted Pinecone Ornaments
All you’ll need for these cute ornaments are a few pinecones, a piece of string for each and some paint in your child’s favorite color. To complete this project simply tie the string to the top of the pinecone and then spread out some newspaper, hand your kiddo the paint and let them get to work. As a bonus, consider adding some festive glitter.
Paper Chain Garland
To create a paper chain garland, cut pieces of construction paper into thin strips and then tape them into interlocking circles. After you’ve created a long chain you can loop it around your tree or tape it to the wall behind the tree.
Framed Polaroid Picture
A beautiful picture can easily evoke sweet memories. This winter as you work to create homemade ornaments with your family, consider snapping a picture of each family member and encouraging them to create a sweet frame to place the picture in. You can use Popsicle sticks to form the initial framing and paint, glitter, poof balls or ribbon to dress it up.
