Got a Tot Who Loves to Run? Try These Classic Games to Channel Their Energy
There’s nothing better than watching an energetic child finally getting to play to their heart's content. So often, due to school, errands, or work, we don’t give our kids the time they truly need to run and play. If you’ve found yourself at the end of a long, busy day with a child who still has a lot of energy on their hands, you’ll need some strategies to help them get out their wiggles and burn some energy before heading to bed. Check out these quick, classic games and activities to help kids burn some energy before bed!
Instead of playing the classic hide-and-seek (which involves a lot more hiding still than running around) put on your running shoes and get a game of tag going. While it might tire you out as much as it does your kiddo, you’ll enjoy watching them laugh and dash to avoid you AND snuggle happily into their bed at lights out.
If it’s too cold or wet to head outside, all you’ll need to do to help your kiddo burn some energy is turn the music up and get grooving. Enjoy spinning, laughing, and jumping with your kiddo as you take turns playing DJ and alternating your and their favorite songs.
While you’ll have to be careful that this game doesn't get too out of control, a good pillow fight before bed tends to leave everyone happy and exhausted. Set your pillow fight up for success by making sure there’s nothing hard or sharp kids could fall into and then enjoy chasing each other around the room as you let your kid burn off their last bit of pre-bedtime energy.
Simon Says can be as tame or as wild as you make it. If your kiddo only has a little bit of energy to burn, you can have them do simple tricks like jump on one foot or spin in a circle. If they’ve got a lot of energy to burn, consider having them do jumping jacks, run back and forth across the room, or jump up and down as many times as they can in 30 seconds.
