Celebrating Your Incredible Kid
As parents, of course we think our children are incredible. Whether celebrating that first newborn smile or tearing up with the intense pride that takes over when those first steps happen, from the very beginning there is no shortage of moments to marvel at when you’re watching your child grow.
But there is so much more to it than that. Because every child gifts the world by just being who they are, sharing their own incredible talents in their own unique way.
Maybe your child is incredible because he has struggled, since birth, to gain weight and learn to eat because of medical conditions. And then, finally, after years of therapy and work and tears, he takes his first bite of a new food, all by himself. There is a special brand of magic there.
Maybe your child is incredible because she charms the world with her infectious smile. Strangers on the street stop to comment on how happy she is, and she makes friends everywhere she goes. What a lovely gift to the world.
Maybe your child is incredible because she has faced things no child should have to face – loss, illness, fear – and she still puts on a brave face each day and embraces life as it comes. It is heartbreaking and awe-inspiring, that kind of strength.
Maybe your child is incredible because he befriends the lonely kids on the playground or shows fierce determination to stick with things, even when they are difficult, or helps others see the world in a new way.
However your child brightens the world by being incredible, we’re celebrating them this month. We’re featuring ways to help your children reach their potential, by helping them learn skills like patience and independence. We’re also considering how to celebrate them, but also protect them, in this connected world of social media. Our bloggers will be covering how to support their interests in sports and school, while making sure to understand their limits and desires as part of the equation. And of course we’ve got great things to do with and for your kids – from fun recipes to make together to great ideas for making their rooms a special place designed for them.
We were inspired by Absolutely Incredible Kid Day (March 20th), which celebrates its 18th year this year. This is a day when adults are encouraged to write to the incredible kids in their lives, letting them know just how amazing they truly are every day.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating! Write your letter. Share your stories. We’ll be posting our own pics and videos on Instagram and we’d love to see yours as well. Just tag your pics with #IncredibleKid and #EverydayFamily! At the end of the month we are looking forward to featuring some of the amazing little ones that are part of our great big EverydayFamily!
