Can't save money? Well, actually you can with a little help from a few apps that will leave both you and your bank account happy.

Here are four Android and Apple friendly apps that'll make for a happy wallet.

I have a second grader, so I've learned that second graders 'round here, like to say the word “literally” and the phrase “well, actually” whenever they can. It's hilarious. I overheard a conversation that went like this …

“I'm literally like, theeee best zombie hunter ever.”
“Weeeeell, aaaactually, you probably aren't literally the best zombie hunter ever.”

It was a disappointed little face on the kid who got well, actually-ed by his classmate. Since then, I refer to my reality checks as well, actually moments.

Mint keeps track of your expenses and graphs them into categories. It's a great way to see where your money actually goes.

Have you ever had a well, actually moment? One of those moments that that kind of make you feel really crappy about something you thought you were doing really well at — kind of like the kid zombie hunter?

I have. On a daily basis.

But this particular time was when I first signed up to use the Mint.com app. Do you use Mint? It is incredible. I love it; even though it made me feel bad by giving me a brutal visual as to where my finances were actually going.

This app keeps track of your expenses and graphs them into categories. It's a great way to see where your money actually goes. You can create budgets and goals, and it tells you your progress. That's not all though, it has many other helpful features. The visuals it gives really helps you comprehend your finances. It is actually quite motivating.

My key ring is completely absent of rewards cards. It's not that I don't like to use them, it's just that, when I have time to fidget, I usually bend them back and forth until they break in half;

Store savings can once again be ours through the app, Key Ring.

and their full-sized counterparts make great window scrapers, so they usually end up forgotten in the car; and because I don't want everyone behind me in line to hate my guts for making them wait for my unorganized self to retrieve my card from my car, I choose to forego the benefits of being a loyal customer. Does that sound like you, too?

Good news, though.

Store savings can once again be ours through the app, Key Ring.

All we've got to do is gather all of our scattered cards, scan them, and then Key Ring keeps them in one tidy place. Want to see how it works?

Handy, right?

I remember when the price of fuel rose to two dollars per gallon. I complained. I regret my complaints now.

I don't always get out of town, but when I do, I try to fuel up in the city —  it is almost always considerably cheaper in the city.

I remember when the price of fuel rose to two dollars per gallon. I complained. I regret my complaints now. I want two dollars per gallon gas again. Does your gasoline bill literally kill your budget?

My brother drives a lot so this app, Gas Buddy, helps save him a nice chunk of change on gas. Once we start having to drive into the city on a daily basis again, Gas Buddy will probably become a good friend to us.

Making a grocery list around your menu plan saves you money at the grocery store, I promise. I can't tell you how many times I have forgotten my shopping list. I walk into the store all proud of myself because I'm going to save money and stick to my grocery budget, that weeell, aaaactually voice comes out of my purse, letting me know that my list is sitting on the entertainment center at home. Great.

Zip List saves us time and money at the grocery store. It's a wonderful app!

But there is an app for list forgetters like me, Zip List. If you don't already have it, then give it a try. It might change your life.

It's smart. After a while, it remembers the things that you buy the most, and keeps track of whether or not you may already have it, or may need to replace it. It also pulls the ingredients from recipes you add to your menu planner, and puts them into your list. Easy, yes? It even tells you when something on your list is on sale.

Oh, and did I mention that it organizes your shopping list by category so that you don't have to run back and forth, and all over the store to find your items? Love that part.
