Boredom Busters: 4 Games to Play with Your Kids in the Car Today!

If you’re a suburban parent, you probably spend a lot of time in the car. Whether it’s running your little one to and from daycare or the babysitter’s house or heading to activities, it is easy for car-time to add up quickly. While some kids don’t mind cruising, others get bored and agitated easily. If you’ve got a toddler that gets antsy in the car seat, consider making your car time more fun. Get creative and choose one of the activities below to entertain your kids in the car today!

I Spy

When it comes to on-the-road fun, nothing beats an old-fashioned game of I Spy. To play, simply pick something that you see and describe it to your child as they guess what it could be. If they’re a younger toddler, you can be explicit. “I spy a picture of a dog on a sign.” If they’re older you can give clues. “I see something that’s brown and wags its tail.” This is an easy one to play in the car today!

Car Counting

If your child is able to count, they’ll be excited to count in their seats. To play this game, simply give your child (or children) prompts, such as “red cars” or “big trucks.” See how many they can count in a set amount of time.

Dance Party

When you’ve got a bored kiddo on your hands, consider hosting a car seat dance party! Put on some of your child’s favorite tunes and ask them to dance in different styles or using different moves. If you’ve got a tech-savvy kid, consider letting them play DJ from the backseat by selecting their favorite songs from a kid-friendly app. This is a great game to play in your car today (and it'll be requested a lot!).

Audio Books

If your child enjoys a good story, consider checking out some audio books from the library. Or download some stories in a genre they might like. Even kids who don’t normally have the attention span to sit for a long story might enjoy a good audio book in the car. Plus, it'll be nice for you, too!
