Beyoncé Gives Birth and Pisses off A Lot of People
So unless you were living under a rock recently, you have heard that Beyoncé gave birth to a baby girl this past weekend. Blue Ivy Carter was born on Saturday January 7th. After the birth, there were a lot of reports that stated she had a scheduled C-section and that an entire floor of Lenox Hill Hospital was shut down to give the couple privacy. Apparently, the top floor of the hospital, where the birth took place, also houses the hospital's NICU unit. Some reports state that some NICU parents were denied access to their babies or were locked into the NICU while Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s guests moved throughout the hospital. There were also some reports that it cost 1.3 million dollars to rent out the floor of the hospital.
First let me say congrats to the couple. Bringing a baby into the world is a wonderful thing and should be celebrated. However, there is no baby on this earth who is more important than another. I understand their need for privacy. I get that Beyoncé did not want to be bothered, but that could have been accomplished in a much better way than how it was handled. Mother and baby floors, at least ones I have delivered on, are some of the most guarded floors of the hospital. It would not have been hard to prevent people from entering Beyoncé’s room uninvited. There was no need to shut down an entire freaking floor. If the couple really needed a whole floor to themselves, how about putting them somewhere other than the NICU floor. Parents of preemies, in my mind, are under much more stress than a mother who had a healthy baby. Under NO circumstances should their or their family’s access to their children, who are fighting for their precious lives, be restricted. I don’t care how many millions some celebrity paid to have the floor; there is no excuse for Beyoncé’s or the hospital's selfishness in this situation.
The other thing pissing some people off is the fact that Beyoncé had a scheduled C-section. Now this report has been disputed by the couple in their public statement by saying Blue Ivy Carter was delivered naturally. Some of those in the blogosphere are mad and think that Beyoncé is promoting unnecessary C-sections and making scheduling a C-section glamorous. Now, I have had two C-sections, and believe me there is NOTHING glamorous about them. I personally could care less if she scheduled her C-section or had her baby naturally; her body, her choice.
So what do you think about them shutting down a whole floor?
