Ben Affleck Not Interested in Staying Home

Ben Affleck Not Interested in Staying Home Picture

While Ben Affleck loves being a dad to his three children, he is not interested in taking on the job of a stay-at-home parent. Affleck is the father to Violet, 6½, Seraphina, 3½, and Samuel, 6 months, with wife Jennifer Garner.

Even though he is not interested in being the primary parent for his three kids, he does want the work he does to mean something; "I don’t want to be a stay-at-home dad. Work is very important to me. I like to work. But I need my work to mean something to me in order for me to not be home with them.” Later in his interview with Details magazine, he admits he is not always present in the family’s life, “I am not very present in the rest of my life. My wife’s very patient. She does everything,” he shares. “If I have time, I try to spend time with the kids, even if just to be a physical presence, the bath, whatever. My mind’s always going, ‘How are we going to light that show tomorrow? What’s the master shot for that scene? Is there even going to be a master?’ Just ruminating endlessly. Because for me — I wish it was discipline or being a great artist. But it’s just anxiety.”

However, it seems even though he is not willing to take on the majority of the responsibility at home, he wants to add to his family. Jennifer Garner recently confirmed Affleck wants more children, telling EXTRA “The fact that Ben wants another baby is true. I can tell you that would be a pretty uphill battle with me!”

While I am not privy to their intimate talks and family life I find it sad that a father that already knows he is not present in his current children’s lives wants to add to the burden his wife already has taking care of three children.

Working dads don’t get a lot of credit for what they do, especially by stay-at-home moms. I hear more "Being a mom is a 24/7 job, and *he* and his work can’t compare to my job." *sigh* I give Ben credit for working and earning a living for his family and still trying to be there for baths and other things. However, I hope Jennifer stands her ground on adding to the brood, as being a mom to one (let alone how many she has now) is a lot of work.

Personally, I only stay at home part time, as (1) I want to help contribute to the family financially and (2) I need to take a break every now and then to find "me"; otherwise I won’t be the best me I can be, which means I can’t be the best mom I can be to my son.

Sounds like a typical man to me, sure if you can afford them and someone else takes care of them most of the time why not. My baby is nine months old and I’m exhausted all the time. That’s just one, Jennifer Garner is one hell of a woman.
