Remember When I Wasn’t Pregnant?

Well, after all my big talk about how I was so content in not being the pregnant one or the one with a new baby, I also made the mistake of writing about how eventually my husband and I hoped to have a fourth baby.

Of course, I wrote, the key word was eventually. I had way too much to accomplish before introducing a fourth baby into our home. My writing career, for one, finally phasing out of my second job as a nurse, and of course, the small fact that we are already overcrowding kids in bedrooms as it is.

But I should have known better than to put that whole fourth baby business out into the world, even in the written form.

Be careful what you wish for, folks.

Because it looks like next year Santa will be filling an extra stocking at our house.

I found out a few weeks ago, and I have to admit, I was a little less than thrilled. Perhaps that is a horrible thing to admit as a mother, but it's the truth. I was hoping to wait a little longer before adding to our family again. I was feeling ready to enjoy a little breather, get my body back (it's been lost since right around my first pregnancy), and focus on other non-baby related projects.

But of course, if anyone knows how an unplanned pregnancy can change your life for the better, it's me.

Sometimes life's plans are better than my own, and I'm really looking forward to the fact that I hope our family will now be complete. We can focus on building a life together that's not completely made up of diapers, tantrums, and breastfeeding. It will be nice to enjoy one last pregnancy and baby stage, knowing it can finally be my last.

Honestly, it's been the most fun to see how excited our older girls are about adding another baby to the family, and although it's going to be an extremely long summer for all of us, I know they will be thrilled to help me with the new baby when he or she comes.

So here's to a new year of growth, family, and one final baby!

Right? Please tell me it's my last baby …
