American Academy of Pediatrics Supports Same-Sex Marriage

same sex marriage

Have you heard? On Thursday, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) publically announced its support for same-sex marriage, stating that “scientific evidence affirms that children have similar developmental and emotional needs and receive similar parenting whether they are raised by parents of the same or different genders.”

This support is fantastic news for the LGBT community!  The AAP is now placing more weight on the developmental success that occurs by raising children in a happy, two-parent home – regardless of the parents’ sexual orientation. Data showed that children from happily married families, as opposed to single-parent families, have a higher level of well-being in numerous areas, such as psychological and physical health and avoidance of high-risk behaviors.

However, while some people are cheering, others are calling the AAP’s endorsement “premature” due to the limited amount of national data that was gathered.

Will this endorsement create an increased divide among conservatives and religious organizations, or will everyone follow the AAPs lead?

The AAP is even encouraging legal and social institutions to support same-sex marriage too, saying, “If a child has 2 living and capable parents who choose to create a permanent bond by way of civil marriage, it is in the best interests of their child(ren) that legal and social institutions allow and support them to do so, irrespective of their sexual orientation.”

And as far as adoption and foster parenting is concerned, the AAP asserts any “loving home for a child” will do – regardless of the parents’ sexual orientation.

I think the AAP has realized that, now-a-days, a child’s comfort and security is much more affected by whether or not his/her parents are getting along, as well as the family’s social and economic means.

Do you agree with the AAP? Is a stable home environment with two happily married parents more important than the sexual orientation of parents?

I completely agree. As long as both parents are committed to each other, and give both love and support to the child, it shouldn’t matter what the parents sexual orientation is. There are many different kinds of families and all are beautiful.

good to know that things are going well, now orphan children can find more homes with same sex couples just as well as any "normal marriage" less in the orphanage is best for everyone, families and children. If I couldnt take care of my boy then I would rather him go with a gay couple than in a orphanage or foster home.

your rather ignorant aren’t you? it doesnt matter if the orphans have a happy family with parents who love them, you would rather them grow up alone with no real family then to be with same sex couples, you are sickening to want to ruin children’s chance for a future just because of your childish and ignorant ideas.

  4. This is pathetic and sickening. Those poor children!
