A Super Cute Baby Shower Gift Idea
Le sigh. There’s seriously nothing more lovely than a baby shower, is there? The sweet decor. The lovely food. The delighted new mama.
The clever baby shower idea that I want to share with you today takes a ‘lil bit of the wind out of the baby shower being ALL about an afternoon of gift opening.
While for some, a gift opening session is great fun, for others, the pressure of being in the spotlight isn’t their favorite. And they want to spend time socializing with their friends and family celebrating their soon-to-be new arrival.
Enter: My favorite new baby shower gift idea!
In the great tradition of all great ideas coming from the mom next door, I learned about this sweet idea from school counselor and mom of two, Jessalin Karsnia, who actually received this gift for her baby shower!
Karsnia said, ““I had someone do this for me at my shower and I absolutely loved it!”
So what’s the big idea, right?
Don’t worry, I’m going to spill all the tea right here — what this baby shower gift idea is, why it’s so special, and how to make it happen for your favorite new mama to be, whether you are a baby shower guest or hostess.
The Big Idea
The big idea is to bring or ask for board books instead of cards.
The Reason Why
The reason why this idea is so great isn’t just because of how sweet and memorable it is, but also how long-lasting and useful it is!
Karsnia explains, “It’s so memorable to be able to look back at these books and remember those special friends and family” and I couldn’t possibly agree more!
As a new mom, I spent a lot of time reading — and rereading — board books. But you know what I’ll admit that I never looked at again? The cards from my baby shower! Karsnia says, “You never throw books away … but cards get lost and thrown away all the time!” I bet you can relate to that just like I could!
The How To
Now that you’re all bought into this sweet baby shower gift idea, let’s discuss the logistics to make it happen seamlessly.
You absolutely can just bring a board book in lieu of a card to the next baby shower that you’re invited to. Just don’t forget to inscribe the book with your name so that you can bring a smile to that mama’s face when she’s reading the board book you give her for the millionth time!
You can also make the Books As Cards idea a “thing” at the next shower you host or attend.
Karsnia shared with me the poem that she now includes in all the baby showers that she hosts and agreed to let me share it with you in the hopes that this sweet tradition carries on.
This is the poem that Karsnia recommends using to get all of the baby shower guests on board … pun intended! 🙂
Instead of a card, we have a little request.
To bring a book that you like best.
Either well-loved or brand new,
Please sign your book with a line or two,
So baby will always know this book was from you!
In the beginning of this article I said that there’s nothing more lovely than baby showers, and this is definitely true! But there’s also nothing like good, creative friends who share their great ideas!
