6 Reasons To Take A Family Vacation to Los Cabos
If you're a mom, you know all about the different emotions that vacation planning can put you through. You will plan the trip, pack all the things for the trip, organize the trip, clean out your fridge with the precision of an engineer (How many ways can you eat carrots? Let me count the ways …), and then run through every scenario possible that could happen to make sure you have all the supplies.
All of that build-up culminates when you finally get through the road trip or the flying and get to your destination and then, it happens. That huge moment of disappointment when you realize that the pictures you saw online of your resort are nothing like the reality … And not at all in a good way.
To avoid that moment happening, may I suggest planning a trip to the Sheraton Grand Los Cabos Hacienda de Mar for your next family vacation? I recently enjoyed a stay at this beautiful and tranquil resort, tucked away in the desert landscape of Cabo. I am happy to report that it is actually just as beautiful as the pictures look. There will be no moment of disappointment for you. When you get there and first step into the oceanside infinity pool, you'll remember just why it is that you put all the effort in to get away in the first place. You'll also probably question why you ever left it when you go back home, but that's another story for another day …
In fact, the pictures don't do the resort justice. You need to add in the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach and the feel of an authentic margarita with fresh-squeezed lime juice in your hand to really get the full effect of this place. If you're considering a trip to Los Cabos (and even if you're not) here are a few great reasons to make Los Cabos your next destination.
You can whale watch
Los Cabos is a huge destination for some of the best whale watching in the world. While I stayed at this resort, I was inordinately excited to see some stingrays jumping out of the water. So I can't even imagine how excited I would be to see some actual whales leaping out of the ocean!
The hotel staff at the Sheraton told me that you can sit right on your hotel room balcony and watch the whales in the water. Of course, it's an even better idea to visit the poolside bar as you watch them. You can also book many water tours to see the whales up close. If whale watching is on your agenda, you'll want to plan your trip for whale season, which is primarily December through February.
Two words: Kids Club
The Sheraton is an upscale, truly relaxing destination. And, to make the most of the grounds, I would suggest letting the kids spend a little time at the on-property Kids Club. Children aged 4 to 12 can spend up to a full day with Red Cross and CPR certified staff enjoying supervised fun and activities. For children under four, in-room babysitting is also available.
The scenery is way cooler than any screen
Los Cabos is full of beauty that you just can't find anywhere else in the world, with sweeping contrasts of mountain and desert backdrops and endless stretches of deep-blue ocean. Los Cabos is a unique place where you can see the Sea of Cortez, the joining of the Pacific Ocean into the Baja peninsula. It's easy to forget the power of nature in our everyday lives of computers and screens and to-do lists, but here? I promise you that your kids will be much more interested in the scenery than any screen.
There is guacamole with every meal
But seriously, there is. And more importantly, the food is divine, with upscale offerings at De Cortez Restaurant overlooking the sea of Cortez to casual poolside eats at Las Sirenas, which serves the best fish tacos I've ever tasted. (Made even better when paired with a fruity wild berry mojito!)
You can take the whole family
And by the whole family, I mean, the whole family. Sheraton specializes in large groups, family events, and weddings, and they offer several gorgeous suites that can sleep up to 14 people. The suites feature multiple bedrooms on separate floors (important if you're traveling with different ages!) and in-room kitchens so you can keep the family fed when you need a quick bite to eat.
You'll fit right in
There are times when it's difficult to find a place where you can actually enjoy a vacation with young kids because it's hard to hit on the balance of kid and adult friendly amenities. You either feel like the place is not truly relaxing enough for adults, or it's too fancy so you're worried the whole time, or it's just way overstimulating for all of you. But the Sheraton is the best of both worlds. It's a resort best suited for families who want a slower-paced, tranquil experience or a relaxing place to come back to after a day of exploring Mexico.
For adults without children, it's upscale and luxurious enough, with tons of areas tucked away for families to play. And families with young children will feel totally welcomed all over the property. There is plenty to do on-site, from themed nights to a kid's pool. (The beach is not recommended for swimming due to the intensity of the waves and undercurrent, so the pool is a highlight of the resort!) And the town of Cabo is just a few miles away if you want to experience more dining and fun in Mexico.
Overall, you can't go wrong with a family trip to the Sheraton Grand Los Cabos, whether you're looking for a relaxing family getaway or an adult-only retreat for pampering at the spa, dining on the beach, or falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing outside of your window.
And did I mention there was guacamole? Because there is. LOTS of guacamole.
