6 Chic Ways to Wear Your Little Black Dress for New Year’s Eve
Each year for New Year, we try to celebrate with dressing up, getting together with good friends, and having a little fun. Last year, I set up my own DIY photo booth and we all had a blast being silly and festive while waiting to ring in 2013. The dress above was recycled from several years before when attending another event, I just added a new necklace that I picked up on Ebay for a large discount compared to the original price. Love when I can find a deal on a statement piece! The best part, I recycled many of our photo booth items at a slumber party my daughter had at the end of the school year so we made another booth, with a white backdrop instead of black and re-used the props.
This year, we're keeping it more casual and going with a Karaoke party that includes all of our kids, but that doesn't mean I won't have a little fun with fashion. I'm thinking a maxi-dress and gold scarf with some sparkle might do the trick. Perhaps some fantastic statement earrings or an up-do?
It isn't often I get out of my yoga pants, let's be real. I work from home, it's easier to wear lounge clothes because it's comfy while sitting at my desk all day. But, I love to dress up, so I went on the hunt in our Get the Look and celebrity archives to find you some inspiration with the LBD in mind. I opted for black because most of us have black dresses or black staples in our wardrobe that we can accessorize to make for a perfect party outfit without breaking the bank.

This look that Kate Beckinsale is wearing would be great for those heading out for their New Year festivities to a place that isn't requiring cocktail attire. The leather jacket, leopard scarf, and knee-high boots with opaque tights makes for a great LBD look with edge. Check out the original Get the Look feature to see how we put this together for you.
Rules of fashion state that if you are going to go with a look that includes a shorter length or one that is cleavage revealing, you should only pick one of the two. I like that Kortney has a mini-dress that comes with long sleeves. The textured material is a nice element that dresses this piece up a bit. If you're not into the thigh-high boot, consider only knee-high to show a smidge of leg, that works here too. Check out our original Get the Look for more tips on Kourtney's style to make this work for you.
If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who live in a warmer climate (hello Hawaii, California and Florida friends!) then these black maxi-dresses could be paired as-is with sandals and a scarf. But, if it's a bit chilly, layers are the name of the game! Your layers are an opportunity to add pops of color. Wear a fun heel with tights underneath for extra warmth and fun. Add a statement necklace or earrings for a pop of bling or color and you are casual yet festive. Check out our original Get the Look for more tips on how to dress up a maxi-dress.
I love this look because it combines two different materials to show some variance between top and bottom. The pop of yellow is a fantastic way to bring in color. Your clutch could be any bright hue and work well with this outfit. It's simple, yet would work for a cocktail party if you worked in the right accessories to dress it up. If you only have a lengthy black dress but you're looking to make it a bit more fun and flirty for the New Year, check out Marlena's Thrift Store re-fashion and get inspired to re-work an old dress in your closet or go on the hunt for one at your local store. It's easier than you think to make this work and there's still time to break out your sewing machine!
Classic black strapless is always a winner. The key to rocking a sweetheart neckline is to choose to wear a statement necklace OR earrings. Usually if you do both it's a bit too much. Here Giuliana chose to keep a bare neckline and wear lovely earrings. She then swept up her hair, which looks so simple, yet very elegant. Check out this post to see Giuliana and Anne Hathaway in their LBD stunners, both are perfect for your dressier parties and will wow your New Year's Eve date.
