Do you have a YouTube account for your home business? YouTube can be a great tool for marketing your business online. Here are a five reasons you should consider starting a YouTube account in an effort to make your business the best it can be.

We Are A Visual Society

As we delve further into the digital age, video is becoming a more important medium. There’s a reason why videos of cute cats, Gangnam Style and flash mobs are so popular: people don’t just want to read information; they want to see it, hear it, and interact with it. When you work from home, it’s easy to become just a faceless name and an email address or a voice on a telephone call. Incorporating video into your business gives you the power of the visual.

It Can Extend Your Brand

Video allows you to have an additional touch point to your clients or customers. It helps to show the personality of your business, and it can also extend your brand. If you run a catering business, create a short behind-the-scenes video of your work or a “day in the life” to show people what it takes to put an event together. If you offer a service, such as graphic design, a video showing your portfolio of work can sway a prospective client to hiring you. If you teach cake decorating classes, offer video tutorials of simple techniques that will entice people to take your class.

It’s Good For Your Web Presence and Search Engine Ranking

Ever notice how videos often show up first in your results when you search something on Google?  That’s not an accident: Google likes videos, especially YouTube ones (remember, Google owns YouTube!).  If you’re trying to improve your web traffic for a particular area, product or keyword, developing videos that relate directly to those is a great way to work on showing up higher in search results.

It’s Easy To Use with Google Hangouts

Maybe you don’t have mad video skills. Not to worry – you can still get your YouTube presence started is by using Google Hangouts. There’s a special feature called Hangouts on Air that lets you record a Google Hangout and immediately share it on YouTube.

It’s okay if you haven’t used Google Hangouts before – it’s basically a video chat. Google lets you connect with up to 10 people in a Hangout via video. You can make it a private hangout, or live stream it publicly to Google – it’s up to you. If you make it a Hangout on Air, it goes right to YouTube.

So let’s say you’re that lady who teaches cake decorating classes. You could do a Google Hangout with some other folks who have questions about cake decorating and make it a question and answer session. By making it a Hangout on Air, the recording of your video chat will be put on YouTube. There’s no videography, editing or extra planning needed. All you need is your webcam and computer!
