Last night, my toddler son took several photos of himself  on my iPhone without any assistance. He grabbed my phone, navigated to the camera, turned it around, then took several “selfies” – and he’s not even three!

Search for “pregnancy” on the App Store, and you’ll find more than 1300 different apps designed with pregnant women in mind.

It’s safe to say technology is an integral part of all our lives. Why should you only utilize technology after your baby is born? From to-do lists to kick-counters, there’s an app for anything and everything pregnancy related. Search for “pregnancy” on the App Store, and you’ll find more than 1300 different apps designed with pregnant women in mind. Of course, with that many options it can be tough to decide how to utilize one of the many apps on the market to help you have a healthy, happy (technologically advanced) pregnancy.

Here are 5 must-have and free pregnancy apps to get you through pregnancy:

5 must have free pregnancy apps webmd

WebMD Pregnancy (Free; iPhone and Android compatible) – If you’re looking for an app to learn about every detail of your pregnancy week-by-week, look no further than WebMD’s Pregnancy App. Brought to you by the website we all run to when we’re feeling the sniffles, the WebMD Pregnancy App provides detailed interactive illustrations of your body, a pregnancy tip-of-the-day, a spot to journal your pregnancy memories, and a variety of pregnancy checklists. The “Belly Photo” section of the app gives you a place to collect your weekly bump photos. Another great feature is the kick counter that lets you start a “session” and track the number of kicks you feel from your baby. When your due date rolls around, the app even offers a contraction timer! The app is easy to use and extremely comprehensive.

Music for Pregnancy (Free – $2.99; iPhone and Android compatible) – Whether you need some soothing music to sleep or something more upbeat to give you an extra bounce in your step as you exercise, Music for Pregnancy offers a wide variety of classical tunes to help you relax during your pregnancy. The app offers playlists customized for meditation, enjoyable walks, restful sleeping and stress busting. The app itself is free for iPhone, but only one playlist is included. My Fitness Pal  (Free; iPhone and Android compatible)– Before I was pregnant with #2, I used My Fitness Pal to lose more than 20 pounds. Now, I use this great, free app to help me make healthy food choices during my pregnancy, track my nutrition, water and sodium intake, and determine if I’m eating too many or too few calories. I’ve always been impressed with the calorie and nutritional database in My Fitness Pal, and you can even add your own recipes and quick-add calories that don’t appear in the database. My Fitness Pal’s calorie count default is set to “weight loss” mode, but you can set your calorie count to whatever you and your physician decide is healthy for you. The app has a social component; add other pregnant mamas to your list for snack ideas and support.

Pedometer by Sports + (Free, iPhone and Android compatible) — Experts say the best way to keep in shape during your pregnancy is to walk 15 to 30 minutes every day. Walking is a low-impact exercise that’s less likely to injure your body, but can keep your heart healthy and your weight down.  Pedometer by Sports + is a free app that not only tracks your daily steps, track your heart rate and pace, and help you set exercise and step goals. Pedometer by Sports + integrates with your iTunes or other music libraries so you can listen to music while you walk! You can keep the app running during the day to track your daily steps, too.
