5 Celeb Looks You Can Rock for Your Holiday Party
Tis' the season for holiday parties – and anxiety as to what you should wear to these parties. Should you go glam or casual? Bright colors or classic little black dress? The truth is, it depends. What's the venue, who's hosting, what does your personal style consist of, and what will you feel most comfortable wearing?
For me, I am your classic stereotype minivan mom most of the time. I wear yoga pants nearly all day long. and schlep my children around town with a coffee tumbler in hand and a hat on my head. It's borderline embarrassing for my eight year-old, but, I work from home, what can I say?
However, when I have the chance to glam it up a bit for a party or wear something a bit trendy for a work conference, I'm all in and I have the shoe closet to prove it! As a result of being a bit out of practice with styling myself however, I often look to magazines, celebs, and friends who seem to put themselves together on the daily for inspiration. When others are complaining that they can't possibly see how rocking a celeb look is possible, I say, why not? Sure, I can't afford the brands, but I can certainly work their style. And so can you if you think outside the box and within the parameters of your own budget.
So, for this holiday season, I've pulled together 5 of our Celeb Get the Look features from our fantastic style contributor Sherry. Each keeps the above mantra in mind, to help you to gather some inspiration for your holiday party circuit. Whether you're just popping over to a work cocktail hour or the neighborhood progressive potluck dinner, you can find something within these looks to make you think about your own style this holiday season.
Have fun, you're worth a little dress up from time to time!
Jennifer Hudson is oozing style and class in this look. A bright pop of color with a sleek trench, opaque tights, and black booties. All on trend, super sleek, and sexy. I love how she matched her lips to the hue of her dress. You could pull this off easily with a classic red dress or go with a less traditional color like the one pictured. Either way, you can't go wrong. Check out more tips and tricks for this look in Jennifer Hudson's original Get the Look feature.
This mini-dress is too much fun. The rule in pulling off a sexy look that isn't trashy is to pick one thing to show off and Bethenny has done that here. She's showing off a lot of leg, but she's covered well elsewhere with her sheath dress and cropped jacket. So, if you're headed out for a romantic holiday date night with a new love interest or you're looking to catch the eye of someone new at a holiday party, this is a great dress for that.
In our original get the look feature of Bethenny, we take this look and tone it down a bit by finding an a-line skirt. Plus, the accessories are perfect for the season, so you'll want to check out that as well.
This is the perfect way to go casual, yet add a smidge of glam, when attending a get together for the holidays. Perhaps it's your neighborhood potluck or your casual family get together – adding the heels and delicate long chain to this flowing red top and jeans is a nice way to pull off the casual dressy look for the holiday. Purple is a lovely non-traditional color that works so well for the holiday season. When paired with metallic accessories or black, as Tori has done here, it's a nice addition. Swap out the metallics and black for a pair of red pumps, add some opaque tights to account for the chill in the air, and add a fun clutch and you'll make this dress pop for your soiree. Black on black is timeless and effortless. Pair a cozy black sweater with a swing skirt of a different medium, like velvet or leather, and you've got a subtle contrast that makes for a classy yet simple look for a intimate holiday dinner or office cocktail party. Swap out the mustard and nude accessories for some red or silver to match the season if you're looking to dress this look up a bit more. Add a large silver bracelet-style watch and earrings and you'll finish up things nicely.
