This year, resolve to:

  1. Get off the couch and get to bed when your friend comes over and offers to hold the baby while you nap.
  2. Be totally okay with using the crib to store laundry while your baby sleeps next to your bed.
  3. Order take out as often as you can afford.
  4. Use paper plates to avoid doing dishes as long as you need to.
  5. Binge watch Netflix while your baby cluster feeds and then sleep when they finally sleep instead of getting up to take care of chores.
  6. Hang up the phone when someone offers advice you’ve already told them you don’t want.
  7. Be okay with giving a stink eye to the lady at the park who asks you, when it’s sunny and pleasant, why your baby isn't wearing a hat.
  8. Be gentle with yourself as you adjust to this brand new life.
  9. Be kind to yourself as you get to know your new body, the way it looks and feels and moves and stretches.
  10. Be patient with yourself while you learn to do all the caretaking things you’ve never had to know how to do before.
  11. Hold the people in your life accountable for respecting the way you parent.
  12. Not do something for the baby instead of letting your partner do it just because you’re better at it.
  13. Let go of your expectations of motherhood and embrace what it is instead.
  14. Take lots of pictures of your baby, but also put the camera down.
  15. Ignore the “shoulds” of being a mom and instead do what you know is right for your baby.
  16. Make an effort to make mom friends but also know that it usually takes a lot longer than you imagined it would to find other moms you click with.
  17. Read some baby books, or not.
  18. Take care of your mental health and get help if or when you need it.
  19. Accept help.
  20. Find joy in the little moments of parenthood.
  21. Kiss your baby every single day.
