8 Ways to Make Your Mornings Go More Smoothly

frazzled momMornings can be a hair-raising experience. Whether it is getting your kids to daycare and school, or getting yourself to work on time, making your morning run smoothly will set the tone for your entire day. Tired kids, sleep deprivation, and the morning brain fog can prevent you from getting everyone out the door on time. Here are some tips to make your mornings great!

Weekly Preparation
On Sunday, sit down and plan out your week. Note appointments and activities on your calendar. If you include single servings of vegetables, fruit, cheese sticks, or other snacks in your kid’s lunch, bag them up on Sunday for each individual day and place them in the fridge to make grabbing the items easy in the morning.

Bedtime Schedule
Set and stick to a firm bedtime schedule. Tired kids are harder to get up in the morning, and going into your children’s room 20 times to try and wake them can set you behind.

Set out Clothes
Iron and set out a set of clothes for each of your children the night before. If your children are old enough, have them pick the clothes they want to wear to avoid fights in the morning. Find and place your kid’s shoes at the door to avoid the “conundrum of the lost shoe” in the morning.

Avoid Last Minute Homework
Don’t let your kids put off their homework until the morning. Make sure both you and your children have gone through their backpacks to avoid the last minute scramble of collecting items, or getting signatures on permission slips. Set everyone’s backpacks by the door before bed.

Pack the Diaper Bag the Night Before
If your child attends daycare, pack all of the necessary clothes, diapers, pacifiers, and wipes in the bag the night before. Fill bottles with formula powder or place your breast milk in the fridge in an easy-to-grab bag. If you provide food, make sure you have everything in place for quick access in the morning.

Stop the Snooze
Hitting the snooze button over and over can set you behind many crucial minutes in the morning. If you can’t give up the snoozing habit, set your alarm 10 to 15 minutes earlier, so even though you hit the snooze button you are still getting up on time.

Automatic Coffee Maker
If you drink coffee in the morning it can give you the needed boost to get through the rush. Invest in a coffee maker that can be set to brew at a specific time to make sure a stemming cup is ready when you stumble out of bed.

Be Happy
Yelling, fighting, and frustration can make for a very unhappy mom and dad. Keep a level head, be kind, and be happy in the mornings. Your attitude will rub off on your kids.

Cherish the time you have with your kids. You will only get so many mornings with your kids before they are off on their own.

I ‘ll keep this handy. I get up early to prepare husband breakfast and packed lunch but I still can go back to bed if my little one is still asleep. Mornings will dramatically changed once she goes to school or another little one join the club 😀 or I mommy goes back to work again?!?!

  5. I have to remember to get things ready before bed. I tend to be up an hour before everyone getting things ready. Ill get everyone’s cloths together, bags packed and loaded in the car. We have a check off list on a white board in the am. My husband gets our daughter ready and in the car and i get our son and before we go we make sure to ask each other if we got everything. Some days its harder then other but we manage lol. Although this helps give me some things to help readjust our schedule to give mommy a little more ZZZ time. lol.

Isn’t it funny that these are all really great common sense answers to our daily dillemmas, yet they are so hard to follow? Try as I may to be organized and do everything on this list, I always seem to miss something…

We’ve gotten out of the habit of setting up the automatic coffee maker, but I sure miss it in the morning.
