5 Ideas for Fun Play Dates
Now that you have a baby, you can take part in the time-honored tradition of play dates! A play date is a time for your baby to socialize and gain new friends, and a time for you to have that much needed adult conversation. Jenn Berman, PhD says, “Babies are fascinated by other babies, and any new stimulation is really good for brain development. Even looking at another child, touching hands, and just being curious is really good.” Here are some ideas for great play dates with your new baby.
Babies are often fascinated by the world around them. Meet some moms at the local zoo to help introduce animals to your baby. Even if the children are in the strollers the whole time, you can have fun conversations with the other moms.
Many local malls have play areas for even the youngest of babies to play. When you get tired of watching the babies play, consider getting your exercise in by walking the mall and window shopping.
Take turns having play dates at each other’s homes. Lay out plenty of clean blankets for your babies to play, touch, and interact with each other. Don’t forget to make snacks for the other moms!
Check out your local library to see if they offer story time for your baby. Make sure you pick a time when other babies will be present, so that a crying or upset baby won’t disturb the other patrons.
Check your local tumbling or mommy and baby club to see if they have classes that you can all attend. Structured play time for babies can help them develop the social and motor skills they need.
