3 Solutions for Rib Pain During Pregnancy
Now that you’re into your third trimester, if your little bun in the oven is anything like how mine were, your ribs are starting to feel like an abused xylophone. It’s starting to feel like a family of five are living in a tiny, one-bedroom apartment — there is just not enough room! That little peanut is starting to feel less and less like a peanut, and more like a watermelon with pointy little toes that like to needle you in the ribs!
This, too, shall pass. And you'll go from having rib pain to chasing around a little pain in the butt!
While not pleasant, rib pain late in your pregnancy is completely normal as your baby grows. Depending on whether you are carrying high, or your baby has “dropped,” or you are carrying low can make a big difference for the pain you feel.
Many women who experience rib pain at the beginning of their third trimesters get a good amount of relief as their babies descends into the pelvis. While the only cure for the pain caused by your baby’s improving soccer skills is to give birth, there are a few things you can do to take some of the pressure off in the meantime.

Posture
This was huge for me. Just think of me as the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I have horrible posture … to the point where my sister likes to tell me I’m vying for a nice old hump when I’m older. I, of course, like to blame it on the two giant weights hanging from my chest. But I concede; I have very poor posture. But, while I was pregnant, especially when I was late into my pregnancies, my posture was awesome, like I was practicing to be a Victoria Secret model. It helped big time! The better posture I had, the less pressure I experienced on my ribs from hunching over my pregnant belly.

I have been experiencing some rather uncomfortable rib pain as you ladies have. And while reading this article, I tried sitting up a little straighter and guess what it did the trick. So now I have to remind myself to sit up and stop slouching and after I’ve had a long day of being on my feet sit down and relax instead of trying to be a super mom. The chores can wait or my husband can do them.
