It’s hard to explain because everyone deals with post partum issues differently. I can tell you my experience though as I suffer from depression and I’m normally on medication so I was on the lookout for signs of PPD and it did kick in even though I was on my meds. They take about two weeks to take full effect. I was worried that I wasn’t connecting with my daughter. I was horribly afraid I was doing EVERYTHING wrong even though I knew I was doing my best. I was exhausted from worrying all the time and there were times I just felt numb. Like I said though it is different for everyone and not everyone’s symptoms are severe enough to worry about. A little bit of mood swinging is to be expected with all the crazy hormones your body releases to try to get back to pre-baby normal mode. I don’t know if that helps at all but I hope so. Best of luck!

Wow, cjlmom67 – sorry to hear this reaction. I have to say, we’re watching this video with different eyes, because I didn’t see the same. I saw a woman celebrating not only her adopted child, but the birth mother that she appreciated and grew close to through the process, and embracing the benefits – and complications – that come with adopting. Adoption is a complicated process for everyone involved, and it’s not surprising it can inspire strong feelings. But this was not meant to be a ‘news’ piece on adoption, just a personal experience from someone willing to share their story.

This is one of the most shockingly selfish and self-centered ‘news’ pieces I’ve ever witnessed! While Beth obviously feels she benefited greatly by ‘getting a kid’ through adoption, her use of another mother to produce that child…the 100% chance that she’d ‘be a mom’ is horrendous! Never is there any mention of what great sacrifice this mom made in being used to produce Beth’s purchased daughter. The nerve of Beth and her husband to deny this mom and baby the basic human right of even sharing the birth and hospital time alone together his outrageous!
What has happened to this baby’s natural mother? How did she handle the postpartum depression Beth mentions with the birth of her own son, not to mention the hideously foolish remark about not having to deal with an after pregnancy body.
If this is an example of a ‘Everyday Family’ it’s a sad, cold heartless one!
