Spring Shoe Styles for Pregnant Women
Author: Heather Slee
Spring is a great time for shoe lovers. All the new sandals are out, new styles and colors, and there are sales galore. And don't think there aren't plenty of options for those of you who are feeling a little unbalanced or swollen.
Slip-on canvas
These are fun for casual dress. There are a ton of fun canvas shoes out there right now, from classic Converse to classic Keds. Look for them in all colors and patterns. They are comfortable, flat-soled, and most of the time, the price is right!
Wedges
If you are feeling pretty confident about your balance and are craving some height, wedges are still hot this year. Also, wedges give your feet a little more support than stilettos and kitten heals, which will save your back some unnecessary pain. They also come in a wide range of heights, so you can pick and choose which you're most comfortable with, without having to negotiate on style.
Ballet flats
Ballet flats are also still around this year, and a great choice for those looking for flat shoes. Like the canvas choices, they are also available in a myriad of colors and patterns, and the great thing about flats is that you can dress them up or down, jeans or a dress.
Now, if your feet swelled up a size, like mine did, and looked like dough rising from a small pan, then you may want to wear some shoes that give you a little breathing room. Sandals are always a great choice and come casual or dressy. One recommendation is to find a pair that straps around your heal to secure the shoe to your foot. It maybe isn't as comfortable as flip-flops, but when your belly is large and you can't always see what's right in front of your feet, you'll appreciate that little safety feature.
Remember, you may have to shop up a size. According to author Daryn Eller, feet can grow a half size or more during pregnancy. The arches can even drop a little, adding to the width of your feet. Even if you don't want to spend the money on temporary shoes, you really should consider it. Wearing too-tight shoes just adds to your already uncomfortable pregnant body! Find some sales and try some less expensive brands, and remember that your other shoes will be waiting for you on the other side.
