Halloween Decorations You Can Make with Your Kids
Friday, October 21st, 2016
Halloween is hands-down my favorite holiday, due in no small part to the nearly endless opportunities for children to use their imaginations and put their work on display. When it comes to decorations there is no need to choose just one – kids who are dressing as princesses can still make witches, ghosts, and monsters to hang both inside and outside.
Figure out how to move beyond pre-packaged decorations and make your home uniquely spooky (or adorable) with or without your kids’ help.
There are lots of great places to get ideas, but two of my favorites are Michael’s Crafts, which ranks projects by level of difficulty and time, and Marie Labaron’s Make and Takes and her CreativeLive class Halloween Crafts and Party Ideas for the variety of ideas.
The obvious place to start your decoration is your front door! Check out this not-so-spooky Monster Door Decor that uses little more than a tablecloth, some card-stock, and duct tape but with a huge impact. A Monster Door will not just welcome trick-or-treaters in style but set a festive mood to welcome you home every day from now through Halloween.
Do you want an amazing pumpkin but don’t wnt to allow the little ones around sharp tools or messy paint? Here’s a fast solution with fantastic results. Check out this cute Vampire Pumpkin using foam and a little glue or use the idea to create your own creation with these mostly mess-free supplies.
Since this is Halloween some crafts have to involve treats! Check out these cute Mini Witch Brooms that simply involve pretzels sticks and peanut butter cups. Even the youngest children can help with this craft, which will double as dessert.
Are you looking for a craft that is truly personalized? Check out this twist on a hand print with this Sweet Little Thumbprint Pumpkin Patch idea that can be repeated each year as your child grows.
Want to take your crafts from cutesy to spooky? Do it yourself with this Ghostly Head Frame that will make everyone look twice when they pass by your wall.
Who says you need new pumpkins every year – or that they need to be orange? Check out this pumpkin totem pole using craft pumpkins that can be used year after year once it’s made!
