Superfoods to Get Healthy

Author: Heather Slee

If you're planning on a pregnancy in the near future, it's a perfect time to get your body loaded with healthy food. It's a time to build up your immune system, to set good eating habits, and to give you the energy you need during this sometimes stressful time. One way to enhance your normal meal routine is to add more superfoods.

Superfoods are foods that are exceedingly rich in antioxidants, fiber, omega 3, calcium, or other important nutritional needs that fuel our bodies and make them healthy. These foods are linked to the reduction and prevention of disease. Also, eating a diet rich in superfoods will help you maintain your weight and mood.

So what foods should we be looking for?

  • Blueberries
  • Spinach
  • Walnuts
  • Broccoli
  • Salmon
  • Soy
  • Dark chocolate
  • Pomegranate
  • Yogurt
  • Avocado
  • Green tea
  • Beans
  • Peppers
  • Acai
  • Tomatoes
  • Raspberries

Also, fill up your grocery cart with dark greens (romaine, Swiss cheese, hard, kale, etc.), which are loaded with vitamins A, D, E, and K, not to mention iron and calcium.

Want an easy way to incorporate these superfoods into your meals? Check out these websites for recipes and meal ideas that will satisfy your taste buds as much as they will benefit your health:

If you focus on whole, natural foods, you will be healthier, happier, and your body will be better prepared for the dramatic changes of pregnancy. Make sure your diet is packed with nutritious foods, and you'll be ready.
