Fun Family Activities for St. Patrick’s Day
Author: Melanie Denney
From the green-dyed water fountains and rivers across the states, to shamrock garland and green clothing, it is evident that St. Patrick’s Day is one of our most beloved holidays. Over in Ireland, they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day unlike any other with carnival rides, live music, and activities that anyone can participate in. Anything Irish is celebrated, and everyone, Irish or not, is invited to head on over to Dublin, to join in on the multi-day St. Patrick’s Festival to commemorate all things Irish! The majority of us will remain closer to home than to Dublin, but that’s no reason not to add touches of Irish magic to our day.
TASTE THE RAINBOW
Bring some luck to the table this St. Patrick’s Day with rainbow-inspired goodies, from colorful layered cakes, apothecary jars with Skittles, to famous green eggs and ham. Whatever rainbow-like provisions grace your buffet, let these McMullin Crepes be the top of your morning. Gather all of your leprechauns, for there’s something to keep them all busy when making these.
Ingredients
- ½ cups of flour
- 1 cup of milk
- 4 eggs
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
To Do
- Whisk together the flour and the milk.
- Add the eggs and mix them in very well.
- Melt the butter, and then add that too. Stir it well.
- Now, pour ¼ cup of batter in the middle of a medium, hot frying pan, then tilt the pan, swirling the batter around until the entire bottom is covered. When the edges of the crepe begin to golden, they’re done.
Top your golden crepes with clouds of Cool Whip and rainbow-colored fruit, such as strawberries, pineapple, oranges, and blueberries; roll them up and they’re ready to be consumed by busy little sprites.
SPREAD LUCK
If you have ever known a leprechaun, you know exactly how endearingly mischievous they can be; so let’s take a lesson from our favorite little elves, and sneak some sweet surprises into someone’s day. Fill little cellophane bags with gold, foil-wrapped chocolates or rainbow colored candies; secure the luck-filled bags with some green twine, and attach a handmade tag with a lucky little sentiment on it. Throughout the day, have your sneaky little leprechauns spread impish delight by leaving the little packages on car hoods, front porches, in hand bags, or in mail boxes.
SEARCHING FOR THAT POT OF GOLD
Invoke a sense of adventure in your family this St. Patrick’s Day by hosting a magical treasure hunt. Imagine the happiness of all of your green-clad family members as they forge through fields of shamrocks looking for clues beneath the leaves, solving riddles found floating amongst clouds in their quest to find the rainbow that will ultimately lead them to their pot of gold.
However you decide to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, you are sure to have a blast spending time and creating memories with your favorite leprechauns- making you feel like one lucky momma.
