Jennifer,
I understand part of what you're going thru. My daughter just doesn't like to talk, so everytime she gets into that sterile setting, they want to re-analyze her. She does not stutter, but some people, mostly doctors, she will not talk to. I would really recommend a speech therapist that is patient. When we went to have her first evaluation at just over three years, she just talked to us parents, and flipped thru a book sitting beside our daughter. In the middle of this, my daughter just started blurting out everything she saw. The recommendation we got was to sit her down, one parent and her, and read to her, let her "read" the book and point out pictures on her own, and ask what she sees. She really has gotten better in the las 5 months with that. She wasn't shy or anything, just got frustrated when no one understood her. I wish you the best of luck, because I know it's frustrating.
In Response to speech delay and speech problems:
my son will be 4 at the end of August. He was almost 2 before we could even understand the slightest thing he was saying. Now at this age, he is getting a lot better but sometimes people outside our home have no clue what he is saying. He gets so frustrated and I feel so bad for him. I have also just started hear him studder... I accept it and will love him forever no matter what, but Im afraid of the cruel world once he starts school.... :(
