So i get a call from my obgyn on friday and he tells me that my 1 hour glucose test came back slightly abnormal and that now i have to go back for a 3 hour test im terrified that i could have gestational diabites has anyone ever gotten bad results from there 1 hour test and had the 3 hour on come back normal
So i too failed my 1 hr glucose test miserably(30 more than what is the limit) .Went in for 3 hr test.Threw up the glucose so have to go again in 2 days.I have read in many discussions many fail the 1 hr and pass the 3 hr test.I am nervous.
the same thing happened to me. I failed the 1 hour and had to do the 3 hour. I passed it with flying colors. the only bad thing was that i started having contractions later that night and had to go to the hospital to get them stopped. Turns out the fast they make you do before the 3 hour test dehydrated me and i wasn't able to catch up before the contractions started. That was very scary.
I have failed both the 1 hour and 3 hour tests with my first pregnancy. But the diabetes weren't hard to control, I just had to watch what I ate and name sure the blood sugar didn't get to high. I also failed the 3 hour test with my second, (they didn't even have my take the one hour test), it so far with this pregnancy I am having trouble with my blood sugar and am terrified that I might need insulin.
I wouldn't worry though, because my doctor told me that most women fail the first test and then freak out over the second when there was nothing to worry about. Even if you fail, it is pretty easy to control it (unless your having the problems that I have).

That happened to me like a month ago. i had just eaten before i went to my doctor's appt and i didn't know they were going to give me a glucose test, so it came back high. i told them when they ordered a 3 hour one, but they still wanted to do it anyway. well my body is really sensitive about not eating & after fasting since 10 pm the day before, i got really dizzy from the test & eventually passed out. because i couldn't eat anything for so long. but the test came back normal. i would just let your doctor know if your feeling sick or woozy when they give it to you, so you can be monitored.
I did the same thing yesterday Silverbohemian. I didn't know/wasn't told the appointment was for that, so Ma and me had breakfast at Dunkin Donuts (I had a delicious onion bagel with veggi cream cheese, a glazed pumpkin donut, and a small french vanilla iced coffee...overkill I know, but I never get to go out much so I enjoy it when I do lol). I told them what I had but had to do the test anyway and failed. It didn't help that I have put on 9.3 lbs since last month either :/. I have to do the 3 hr. test Monday and I am nervous...1 I don't do well fasting, and 2 I have never in my previous 4 pregnancies had problems with my sugar....maybe it will go okay...who knows lol. On the plus side, they gave me a high carb diet to start today and use until I have to fast...and I love almost everything that is on it lol.
I failed both and am now taking insulin. It was very upsetting to have to start injecting with needles. But now that I've been doing for a while, I've gotten use to it and feel like it's a pain in the but! I get so hungry that I sometimes have a hard time stopping myself from eating to take my needles. But manage to for the baby!
I failed my 1 hour glucose test and got a call the next day. I found out last night that i also failed the 3 hour glucose test! I have to go to an appointment with a diabetic specialist on Dec 11th and im soo not excited! I was told that there is a chance i won't have to take insulin shots and then i was told i will have to by 2 different nurses! Im soo confused and upset because im one of those people who likes to eat whatever i want whenever im hungry or i want something!! Now im going to be put on a diet plus they are going to moniter me like crazy. Im worried that "little boy" Tino is going to have to be born early and that now im going to have to have a c-section. Im only going to be 29 weeks on Friday and i look like a whale already, i've had so many people tell me that im going to have a big baby and that was before we found out about the gestational diabetes.
I had gestational diabetes and was terrified at first. I was delivering at a wonderful hospital that has its own diabetes center where I met up with nutritionists that give new mothers a class on testing their blood sugars and eating right. Because I found out early (at 19 weeks) and because I was overweight going into my pregnancy, I was able to eat right and exercise and didn't gain a pound with my little guy! Don't let it frighten you because it is VERY common these days. I believe they said 1 in 4 women experience this during pregnancy. I wish you the best of luck momma!
I did! My 1st test came back very abnormal and then the 3 hr. test came back perfect. I stressed highly for the few days before I could get in to take the 3 hr test but it was ok. Good luck!
I had a 3 hour test, but it didn't come back normal. I had gestational diabetes. It was scary at first, and I thought it was going to be very hard to follow the diet plan. I couldn't have been anymore wrong. I followed all the directions from both my doctors, took my meds on time, checked my blood sugar and stil could have a small piece of candy.
The plus side of this, outside of having a healthy baby girl, was only gaining 10 pounds. If you follow the diet everything will be fine.
If you had to choke down the one hour stuff, this one is worse. After you have your baby and your six week check up, your doctor should have you come back in and take a two hour test. This is to make sure your blood sugar levels have returned to normal. You can get Type 2 diabetes after having gestational diabetes.
with my first, i had to do the three hour test for the same reason, and it was all fine, came back normal, and i didnt have any other problems.. i hated the three hour because of having to fast for so long, and the needle pokes. i reccament schedualing it for the very earliest you can if possible, so you can get it over and done with, and eat whatever you want the rest of the day. im hoping with this pregnancy, i wont have to have the three hour test

I failed my 1 hour test so bad that I didn't have to take the 3hour test. They immediately put me on insulin shots and glucouse monitoring 3 times a day. I also had to come to the office twice a week for NST. Because I was diagnosed with Gestational diabites I had more ultrasounds done than normal. Even though I hated giving myself those shots everyday I enjoyed getting to see my baby more.
I As Well Failed The 1 Hour Test That There Was No Need To Take The 3 Hour Test. I Was Diagnosed With GD At 27 Weeks. I Am Now 31 Weeks & 5 Days And Still Following The Meal Plan Provided By The Nutritionist. I Test My Blood Sugar 5 Times A Day, Take Glyburide (Pill Form Of Insulin) & Go For Stress Tests Once A Week At My OBGYN (Sometimes Twice A Week) & The Hospital once A Week For Sonograms To Check The Baby Weight And Nutrient Intake (Between Baby And Placenta). My Baby Isn't As Big As Predicted For GD Patients. I Enjoy Seeing Her Often (Get Printed Sonograms Weekly). My Doctors Monitor Me Very Carefully. So Far The Only Worry I Have Is That I Am In Pre Term Labor, But Doesn't Mean The Baby Will Come Early. It's Ok To Be GD and Have A Normal Pregnancy, Just Follow The Docs Orders ;-)
I had a slightly abnormal reading w/the 1hr. glucose test.... But, I did not go back in for the 3hr. test-just because I already have 2 children at home to take care of-while the other 3 are in school! So, thankfully, I was able to borrow a glucose monitor from my mom(and of course new lancets and stuff) and just poke my fingers for a couple of weeks an hour after each meal and right away in the morning-after fasting 12hrs. And the results were just fine! Hope that helps! But, if you end up having gestational diabetes it isn't the end of the world and it just means you have to be a lot more finicky about your food intake and what not!! And drink lots and lots of water!!
