I have a small bed set up in the soon to be nursery for nights when it's easier for me to stay with baby to not brother my husband. I can't decide if I want to get a convertible crib or not. Thoughts on cribs that convert to toddler bed needed!!
I got a convertable crib for my son, I chose it because I felt like it would be the best bang for my buck. My son's aunt recommended it to me because of how well it's working for her son whose now at the toddler bed age and he loves it and it saved her from having to buy a toddler bed. So, yeah I would definitely suggest a convertable crib, it's a money saver!
Everyone raves about these convertible cribs but you really need to research these because they can be major headaches and cost you more than you think. Most of these cribs don't come with the parts you need to convert them. So you spend 400-600 on this stylish new convertible crib thinking your saving money and then end up blowing another 150-350 on the conversion pieces. Another thing you need to think about is when your lil one is old enough for a bed it's going to be a big deal for them. Do you really want them stuck with the same bed or do you want to let them pick their own racecar bed or these new character toddler beds that are about 100 and use the rib mattress. I got a convertible crib that only a crib and toddler bed. It came with all the peices, hada finish that I love, and I got the crib, mattres, and changing table for 199. And guess where...Walmart.com! Yes, not all the cribs they have are great but the one I picked had hundreds of reviews that were all better than every single 400 or more dollar crib I looked at. I love my crib still.
I found that with both my sons, it was sooo much easier to have the convertible ones! All I had to do was take one side off and it turned into a day bed to start learning to sleep in a regular bed... and I didn't use rails or anything like that either... we put pillows on the floor till they stopped falling out.... I think it made it easier for them to get used to sleeping in a regular bed... only a couple months each of falling out and then they stopped... They got a better awareness of where the edge of the bed was... You also have to really look at the convertible crib to make sure you are getting everything you need to convert it. When it goes from a day bed to a single bed, you have to buy the frame. Other than that, I felt that it was totally worth it and easy to convert!
I ended up buying a convertible bed. Well my mother in law ended up gifting a convertible bed for me is more accurate. For the price of the bed; I want it to be with me for a LONG time. But you'll have to consider the fact that it'll need sanded and restained at some point.
The crib I got also came with the safety bar for when they're toddlers and it converts to a full bed rather than a twin so you'll have to read to see how big it gets.
I bought a convertible crib for my little one due in September. I also bought the neccessary converter rails right away also so I wouldn't need to worry about that when the time came. It seemed like a good value to do it this way plus I really like the crib/bed and think it will look nice in her room hopefully for a long time. I love the fact that when it comes time to change to a toddler bed, all I will have to do is change the side rail, not go shopping again for a new bed.
I think it comes down to personal preference. I personally liked the value and convenience of the convertible crib/bed.
I didn't buy a crib at all, I didn't have the space for it. My SO, son, and I all shared a room. So I got him a bassinet and he now sleeps in his pack n play. My two best friends did get the convertabile cribs and they loved them.
Should i leave or take off the bumpers from our crib ?
