I have had Type 1 since the age of 8.  I am now 43 and just had a baby on Oct 7th, 2011.  I did have her quite early as she was due on Dec 25th. 

I think it was due mostly to my age not the Type 1. 

My first child I had when I was 23....I know! 20 yrs age difference :)  The first baby I was told I would have kidney damage but went away when I delivered and never had any symptoms.  I was perfectly happy and felt perfectly healthy with both babies. 

Dont ever let the doctors tell you that you cant do it!  My doc told me to just go home and put a gun to my head when I was trying to conceive my second.  She is just beautiful and would not change a thing!

The only thing that I can really suggest strongly is TEST TEST TEST!  My fingers for both of my children were severly bruised and full of holes....well worth it!  Keep the blood sugars level and you should do fine!  Everyone is different but my pregnancies were both ok.

When I was pregnant the first time it was a different era....1992.  

I had an eye specialist, kidney specialist, I also was lucky enough to have an OB/GYN that specialized in Diabeties and pregnancy. 

Watch for low blood sugars in the third trimester.  I was induced 3 weeks early for my first because of the lows.  This is normal but make sure to be aware of them when they come. 

Your little girl will be fine!  Just follow dr instructions and dont forget to test your sugars!

Just to put your mind at ease....my sugars were horrible before I got pregnant each time...and I was a smoker each time!!  I quit both times but I was in no way shape or form in the best shape to have a baby either time. 

Like I said before, dont let anyone tell you you can't.  Just stay healthy now and watch the diet while pregnant.  Good Luck!  If you have any other questions I will be happy to help!  I wish I had someone who went thru it with me!

Nope....she did not develope diabetes.  I was told that it skips a generation.  Actually I dont think anyone knows where it comes from!  My mom read an article that said trauma in childhood causes it.....who knows. 

I quit smoking at 20 weeks with the first and the second quit only days before she was born at 29 weeks.  My second came early because i had a lot of stress with the hubby and for my age.

I can only give you suggestions, my experience and my opinion.  My opinion is that we destroy ourselves and still give strong beautiful life! LOL!  It is also my opinion that we know more about our bodies and what we can handle way better than these endocronologist who read it from a book!

Listen, at 43 I should (even as a healthy, clean, non-smking woman) not have been able to have what I have.  I had my own belief and strength and believed in myself enough that it happened!  I went thru a lot...a hell of a lot to get her but she is here and she is healthy!  Both of my girls!  The docs told me that my last one would have downs syndrome or some other chromisone problem...she has none.  I was told she would never live because I am a 43 yr old brittle diabetic....guess what, she is here and she is healthy!  She came early but she survived because I knew she would! :)

Dont let the doctors scare you.  Believe in yourself!

I just had my 2nd in April & have been diabetic for 9 years. I've had an insulin pump for 8. I was lucky enough to get a continuous glucose monitor in December which really helped me to keep my sugars in control and my A1C down.  Every womans body is different, therefore every pregnancy will be different, but I have had no complications with either pregnancy.  I have big babies (10 14.9 lbs & 10 7.2 lbs), but I have c-sections and both my babies are very healthy.  I also breastfeed, which helps you lose weight faster & helps with sugars also.  If you can find an OB who's willing to work with you and your endo, it will make all the difference.  My 2 drs work wonderfully together & I know I am very blessed to have that.  Good luck!

Hi! i am now 26 weeks and i just had another ultrasound yesterday to make sure she is growing like she should and they said she's perfect! she now weighs 2lbs 3ozs and i am so glad she is doing ok. :))))

I prayed A LOT too! 

The doctors TRY to scare you because they are scared they will get sued or something I think.  You believe in You!  Don't let them freak you out.  Once you have your little girl in your arms you will be like...."Wow!  why did I worry so much?". 

My mom was a nurse (retired now) and she helped me a lot but also worried too much too.  Medicine is different these days.  Doctors are still living in the 70's...even the new doctors today are learning from the old farts!  We do know more than they could ever learn from a book.

Do you have Facebook?  I am AtibaNbecky Romeo.  You can see both of my kids :)  The 20 yr old looks like a barbie and the new one is mixed and boy is she gorgeous :)  She is 9 months now but small because she was preemie.  - STRESS while preg??? You have no idea girl!  LOL.  We lost 2 babies and my dad right before Gabriella came along.  We lost 2 because, as my doctor put it...."your eggs are too old"  LOL!  I showed him!!

After my 2nd baby in April, my husband & I decided we just produce big babies. He's 6'1" & his dad is even taller. My family has tall people too. I had several ultrasounds during my pregnancies to keep track of the babies' weight. We knew they were going to be big ahead of time, which is why I had c-sections.

True, diabetes can produce big babies, but I know several diabetic moms with normal-sized babies.  My sugars were well controlled during my pregnancies & both of my children are very healthy.  I was a 9lb baby & my mom was/is not diabetic. My husband was high 8's as well.  Genetics also plays a huge role in babie's size.  Besides, having a 10lb baby is not a bad thing. My body handled it just fine both times & there are many advantages to big babies! Both of my kids have been great sleepers & eaters from the time we came home from the hospital. Think about it, bigger baby=bigger stomach (their stomach can hold more food at a time which mean they will sleep longer). I don't have to feed my baby every 2 hours either.  I also don't feel like I'm going to break them when they're so new! I know that I did everything I could during my pregnancy for my children to be healthy & THAT they are! No beating myself up over this issue!

It says because of high sugar levels.....just know that it IS difficult to maintain sugar levels when pregnant....don't beat yourself up.

My first baby was 8lbs 5oz and she was 3 weeks early.  Great sleeper.  But,  when I took my second one home from the NICU (born 1lb 12oz) at 5lbs 2oz she slept well also!  After the first 2 weeks home she slept thru the night.   But we fed her oatmeal in each bottle for good growth....so I think that helped alot with her sleeping well..... you are right full belly, good sleep :)

Man its been a crazy week...just got home from the hospital cause i almost had my little girl. I'm now only 32 weeks and 5 days and am already 4cm dialiated. I want to the doctor for a regular check up last wednesday and was contracting (which I didnt relize) and already 2cm so they sent me to the hospital. They got the contractions to stop for now but think she'll be here within the next 2 or 3 weeks....I'm scared but ready to meet her also...dont really know what to think.........
