Car Seat Games for Baby

by

baby in a car seatWhether it’s an hours-long road trip or a day of running errands, a cranky and restless baby can turn the drive into a nightmare. The last thing you want is for your baby to be miserable, and the crying and fussing can make it impossible to concentrate on the road and the cars around you. Luckily, there are some things you can do to ensure that your baby is happy and content, including some special car seat games for Baby.

Singing – Most babies love to hear music or the sound of their parents singing to them, and you can use this to your advantage as you’re driving. Pick up a CD of children’s songs that you can pop in and turn up for your baby to enjoy. Make it an opportunity for your baby to absorb great information by choosing a CD with The Alphabet Song, songs about numbers, or songs about animal sounds. Alternatively, family members can take turns singing songs that your baby seems to enjoy.

Attachable Toys – Another great option is to purchase a few toys that attach to your baby’s car seat with Velcro or clips. There are numerous kinds, from plush animals to colorful plastic items that will stimulate your child and provide plenty of entertainment. A great tip is to try some of these toys at home before your trip to determine which ones are your baby’s favorites. Take more than one set of attachable toys so that when your baby loses interest, you can switch them out to prevent boredom.

Portable DVD Players – Colorful pictures dancing across the screen, music, and silly characters can all come together to keep your child content when you utilize a portable DVD player. There are portable DVD players with screens that attach to the seats for easy viewing, and most of these allow the parent to keep the base near them for easy DVD changing. This is a wonderful option for parents, especially if your baby has a favorite movie or DVD.

Other Tips for Keeping Your Baby Happy in the Car – While car seat games for your baby are wonderful, there are a few other things you can do to ensure that your baby is happy in the car. If you’re doing day errands, try to schedule the trip during your baby’s normal nap time. Typically, the movement and sounds in a car will put babies to sleep; so if your baby is already tired, it could mean a long nap in the car. Additionally, making sure your baby is full and satisfied before starting your journey can prevent him or her from being hungry and fussy. Siblings are a huge help, as well. They can sing to your baby, make silly noises, and keep the little one occupied while you’re driving. Have your older children try car seat games with your baby, such as peek-a-boo, tickle monster, counting, itsy-bitsy spider, and more.

By preparing ahead of time, you can make sure your baby is happy and has a great time in the car rather than being fussy and discontent.

Same here–I’ve learned that it’s essential to factor in feeding times before and after an outing! He gets cranky getting into the car seat, and having a full belly helps take the edge off.

I try to feed and change my son before going on a outing no matter how short.
