Gwen Stefani's Biggest Accomplishment

Wednesday, September 12, 2012 by Heather Montgomery from Celebrity Stilettos and Sippy Cups

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, married 10 years.

One might think that Gwen Stefani would view her success in the music business or fashion industry as her biggest accomplishment. She has awards and experiences that many people only dream of, but those accolades are not the accomplishment she values the most. Instead, her marriage of 10 years is what she calls her biggest accomplishment.

Stefani married Gavin Rossdale in 2002 and has since had two boys with her husband; Kingston, 6, and Zuma, 4. In a recent interview with Marie Claire she says, “A miracle … my biggest accomplishment is my marriage so far. Because it’s hard, everyone knows it’s hard. [Marriage] is something that I always wanted to do successfully. It was a dream of mine. I like the official-ness and the family-ness of it all, having the same name and making decisions together.”

She says that marriage is an ever-changing thing and something that does not come easily but that in the end it is worth all the effort, “We’re learning about each other all the time. He balances me out,” she shares, “And he never stops liking me, which is awesome! It makes me feel happy, that someone likes me as much as he does.”

I find it very commendable that she views her marriage as such a big accomplishment. Let’s face it, marriage is hard, I would imagine it is even harder in a business where you are away from your family so often and every temptation imaginable is at your fingertips. Making it ten years may not be rare in the real world, but seems rare in Hollywood.

As I come up on my own 10 year anniversary, I look back at the times when I thought we would never make it this far. Marriage is hard, but having someone to come home to every night who shares your dreams, knows your weaknesses, and sees you at your worst but still loves you makes the hard times worth it.

Do you view a 10 year marriage as an accomplishment?
