Google has declared its own version of independence. “More than any time in history, more people in more places have the ability to make their voices heard. Just as we celebrate freedom, we need to celebrate the tools that support freedom.” - Google, Take Action
To use the wording from the Washington Post, Google has declared its Digital Independence. And why shouldn’t we celebrate? From Facebook and Twitter to sites like EverydayFamily, more people are able to connect, learn, and share than ever before.
Google’s campaign is urging us all to celebrate and sign up for “an open and free Internet.”
With the Internet, I am free to write what I feel and share it with you – we can connect. I can research the unknown, book vacations, Skype distant family and friends, and check local happenings. I never considered these capabilities as a gift given by freedom, but Google is right. We should be thankful and celebrate.
Today, I will light a sparkler for the freedom the Internet gives me. Who’s with me?
“And I gladly stand up, next to you, and defend her still today. Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land …”
Happy 4th of July!
