Angelina Jolie Opens Up About Double Mastectomy

When Angelina Jolie wrote an Op-Ed column for The New York Post earlier this week, the news she shared was a shock to many people. Jolie revealed she recently underwent a double mastectomy. In 2007, her mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56 after fighting the disease for nearly a decade. Jolie admitted she has struggled with explaining why her mother is not here to be a grandmother and has been asked by her own children whether or not she would also die from cancer several times.
Doing everything possible to be here for her children as long as she can, Jolie underwent testing for the BRCA gene mutation and tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation. According to her doctors, her risk of breast cancer was 87 percent, a number that influenced her to choose to undergo a double mastectomy – a procedure that worked to reduce her breast cancer chances to just 5 percent.

When they met on the set of the Biggest Loser Sam Poueu and Stephanie Anderson fell in love. Poueu proposed to Anderson in 2010 and shortly after suffered a major injury that required 9 months of recovery. When the couple married in April of 2012, they had their whole life ahead of them and quickly got pregnant. However, the couple announced this week that they will be getting a divorce and Anderson asked for privacy during this difficult time. According to reports, when their marriage began to suffer with communication problems, Anderson urged Poueu to go to counseling. While in a session, Poueu decided to confess all and admitted that he has been cheating on Anderson throughout their relationship. It seems that Anderson could not cope with the betrayal and left Poueu with only two months remaining in her pregnancy.

Mothers Day 2013 is in the books, and we hope all the EverydayFamily mamas had a wonderful day! If we were to guess, we’d say celebrity moms got the royal treatment on Mother’s Day, too (as if they don’t’ get the royal treatment every day!) Here’s how some of our favorite Hollywood mamas spent their day.
Giuliana Rancic’s road to motherhood was not easy. After going through fertility treatments, suffering a miscarriage, and being treated for breast cancer (found as a result of the fertility treatments), Giuliana Rancic and hubby Bill welcomed their first son, Duke, to the family through gestational surrogate late last year. On her first Mother’s Day, Giuliana spilled the details about her son’s spunky personality. “Right now, his personality is kind of a split between Bill and I….when he wants something really bad, the fiery little Italian comes out.” Bill surprised Giuliana with a peridot birthstone necklace (Giuliana and Duke share an August birthday) as an early Mother’s Day present. On the big day itself, Giuliana said she was going to completely unplug and enjoy her little family.

After having her son, Milo Thomas 20 months ago, Alyssa Milano realized she would not be in a bikini anytime soon, but that’s not her big concern.
The 40-year-old actress has learned how much love her heart could hold since Milo was born. She told People, “You think you know what love is before you have [kids] and then you have the baby and it completely shatters whatever concept of [what] love was before you met them.” When Milo was born she decided to take her time in losing the baby weight, instead she just enjoyed being with her new baby.

Amber Rose wanted to have a home birth even before she became pregnant last year. She watched The Business of Being Born and knew that the experiences she saw on the documentary were ones she wanted to recreate when she had a child of her own. After becoming pregnant, she got her fiancé Wiz Khalifa on board, hired a doula, got a birthing pool, and had everything ready to welcome her son Sebastian into the world in the privacy of her own home.
However, her plans took a turn when at 8-months pregnant when she found out that Sebastian was breech. Unfortunately, all outside interventions -- homeopathic and medical -- failed and she had to schedule a c-section. She said on The Ricki Lake Show, “At that point, after I tried everything, I was like, ‘I just want my baby, if I have to have a c-section, fine.’ But I told Wiz, ‘If we go to the hospital and my baby turns around, I’m going back home!’”
Met Gala 2013 Recap: Fabulous Punk Couture or Themed Party Gone Wrong?

Did you think prom days ended after high school? That might be the case for us normal people, but for celebrities, the Met Gala is just as glitzy as their high school prom.
The Met Gala, held at the fabulous Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, is a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute and one of fashion’s biggest nights. Each year since 1948, celebrities dress in their most outrageous outfits (fitting with the theme of the year) and walk the red carpet.
This year’s theme, “Punk: Chaos to Couture”, was hosted by Vogue Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, and celebrities certainly dressed the part. As you can imagine with a theme like that, celebrities dressed to impress – or at least dressed to be talked about on the internet the next day! While there were many stars who looked glamorous (Jennifer Lawrence in a strapless tea length black beaded Dior dress) sexy (Gisele Bundchen in a one-sleeved cutout Anthony Vacerello gown) and sweet (Carey Mulligan in a backless Balenciaga frock), others left us wondering one thing: why?
Sarah Jessica Parker knows a thing or two about style, especially after she spent years as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex in the City, but she outdid herself Monday night with her take on the punk theme. SJP showed up in a feathered Philip Treacy headpiece that was the talk of the ball. She paired the headpiece with a patterned Giles Deacon gown and knee-high tartan boots. Beyonce took a break from mommy-ing Blue Ivy to stroll down the red carpet (as the last to arrive, of course) in a black dress with orange and red fiery from Givenchy. The look included matching boots that peeped through the high-leg slit in the dress. Overkill, or just enough?

Reality TV star and first time mom-to-be, Kim Kardashian has been seen embracing her curvy baby figure with a few ensembles most of us would not think to put together while pregnant. Kim has received a lot of criticism over her pregnancy weight gain and I think that's very unfortunate. Our bodies change dramatically to accommodate a living breathing human being and it goes without saying - pregnancy is not easy, famous or not. I admire the fact that she is dressing her body to show off her full baby figure.
While I'm not crazy about all of the maternity fashion choices she has made I thought this black dress, topped with a blazer and a fabulous pair of white stiletto sandals with feather detail suited her well. Today I'll be recreating an inexpensive version of Kim's outfit for you.

Kara DioGuardi had seen what cancer could do to the women she loved -- both her grandmother and mother passed away after battling breast and ovarian cancer. So when she happened to hear a story on the BRCA gene on a New York news station, she paid attention. The BRCA gene is found in women who have hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and is thought to be an indicator of the chances of developing these cancers later in life. Medical professionals have begun to recommend prophylactic surgery to women who test positive for either BRCA or BRCA2 mutation.
When DioGuardi discovered she had the BRCA2 mutation she choose to have her ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes removed to greatly reduce her chances of developing hereditary breast or ovarian cancer in the future. But the surgery put a chink in DioGuardi and her husband’s plans to have a child.
Stars Say to Leave Kim Kardashian Alone

Kim Kardashian has been the brunt of quite a few fashion jokes as she has grown during her pregnancy. The reality star has been seen wearing couture clothes that may not do justice to her figure, and the usually fashionable star has been criticized for her fashion choices. Some stars are now speaking out against the criticism with one main theme: leave her alone.
In a recent People magazine article on their website several women who are currently pregnant or have been pregnant spoke out in defense of Kardashian. Gwyneth Paltrow said, “I think that women should support each other, especially through pregnancy. It’s a difficult time and I think Kim Kardashian looks absolutely beautiful. And we’re supposed to gain weight when we’re pregnant — that’s how God intended it.”
Helena Christensen says, “It is disgusting and despicable the way that certain media constantly harass the pregnant Kim Kardashian … a public bullying and attacking of a pregnant woman because of her growing shape is just lower than low … No one should ever be publicly judged for their body, but to attack an expecting mother is sacrilegious and just plain wrong. A pregnant woman should not be criticized for her shape, period!!”
