7 Random Things that Brighten My Day

Wednesday, September 05, 2012 by Sara McTigue from It All Started with a Meatball

Little girl, messy braids

I’m feeling pretty good today. It’s the beginning of September. The kids are happily beginning a new school year, the weather might have had a hint of cool early this morning, and we’re looking at the beginning of fall – my favorite time of the year. In honor of all this good feeling, I’m going to share 7 things I’m loving right now. Why 7? Why not?

1 . Squeezy applesauces. That’s a technical term, you know: squeezy. My kids love applesauce, but packing it in their lunches or while on the go was always way too much of a hassle and a mess. Many brands now offer the sauce in pouches that make this yummy snack totally mess free. Winner!

2 . Taylor Swift’s new song. I know – it’s one of those love it or hate it kind of things, but we’re loving it at my house (well, except for my husband)! The fun little lilt on the end of her “we-eee” has got all three of my kids singing along enthusiastically. It makes car rides much more fun.

3 . Dry erase crayons. We’ve got a giant whiteboard in my son’s room thanks to awesome family members who pass along the goods when their kids grow out of them (thanks Aunt Tara and Uncle Dave!). Unfortunately, we’ve gone through tons of markers in no time, since the kids aren’t great at replacing the caps and clicking them closed. Enter the crayons – all the fun, and no drying out!

4 . Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back. Enough said.

5 . Random moments of total awesome. Like this morning, on the way to school. We’re driving along, having a totally average day when we spot three hot air balloons floating above us. Suddenly, everyone is excited and happy. It’s the little things that make the totally ordinary suddenly magical.

6 . My husband, Charlie. For being understanding when he walks in the door to screaming, fighting kids and a frustrated wife. For getting on board with my plans for family adventures. For bringing home the wine (see note on screaming kids and frustrated wife, above).

7 . Braids in my girls’ hair. There is something so sweet about braids on a little girl. I’ve been pinning tutorials on Pinterest – check out some of my favorites on the EverydayFamily boards here. Now I just have to get them to sit still long enough to practice. Any tips?

So that’s it. 7 things that make my days a little bit happier. Now, I want to hear from you! Please take a moment to share some of your current favorite things.
