6 Delicious Toddler Snacks

Are your children snackers like mine? Aside from their main meals, my boys snack an average of 2 to 3 times between meals. To ensure that they are not too full to eat proper meals, and to keep the junk level down, I frequently make our snacks from scratch. It sounds intimidating and time-consuming, but many of these are fairly easy and quick to make, and because you can make them in batches to store, it is super convenient for on-the-go snacking, too.
No-Bake Granola Bars
First on the list is this no-bake granola bar recipe I found a couple of years ago that has become a firm family favorite. It’s also great for adults—I love eating this for breakfast with a Greek yogurt. It is really delicious, and it only takes 30 minutes to make.
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
- 2 cups quick rolled oats
- 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 cup dried cranberries (you could also mix and match other dried fruit, nuts, seeds, chocolate chips, raisins, etc.)
- In a small sauce pan, mix honey and brown sugar. Cook over medium-high heat until sugar is completely dissolved. Stir constantly.
- Once the honey-sugar mixture is completely mixed and dissolved, remove from heat and quickly stir in peanut butter.
- Mix the oats and cereal in a large bowl.
- Pour honey-sugar-peanut butter mixture over dry ingredients and mix well.
- Stir in the dried cranberries(or your choice of “mix-ins”) and make sure the distribution is even.
- Press the mixture into a 9″ x 13″ pan that has been greased or lined with wax paper. Press the mixture down so that it is firmly packed.
- Let cool to firm up.
- Once the mixture is firm, cut into 24 square bars and store in an air-tight container. I find that keeping the container in the refrigerator helps the bar keep its shape.
