I love being pregnant, but truthfully, I don’t like the immediate postpartum period that comes right after having a baby. I’ve been through it a handful of times already, but it doesn’t seem to prevent my surprise every time. I feel beautiful when I am pregnant, even at 9-months-in — when I am at my heaviest and roundest. All that love for my shape goes away when the baby is no longer gestating and is lovingly in my arms. I wish I wasn’t so hard on myself — a trait that I work hard to overcome, and I am hoping to manage this time around.

With experience of the past and understanding what triggers the emotional hardships for me, personally, dealing with my body postpartum, I have worked to be proactive in making sure I feel the best I can after having a baby.

I have been able to embrace this pregnancy and all the changes in my body far better than I have in the past. I have re-framed how I speak about my body (I don’t ever say “fat,” but instead “healthy”) and have discovered ways to dress my new shape that makes me feel my best. I am hoping to transition the same philosophy when the baby has been born and to embrace the postpartum period; to be kind to my body, which just grew a human — a miracle.

With the experience of the past and the understanding of what triggers the emotional hardships for me, personally, dealing with my body postpartum, I have worked to be proactive in making sure I feel the best I can after having a baby by having products and certain things set in place before my baby arrives. This helps to jump start the positives for when it begins to be harder for myself to see those imperfections that seem to plague my early postpartum period. If you’re looking for products to help you feel your best after you have a baby, here are things I’ve made sure to have ready at home for when I bring home the baby.

I had everything organized and clean but the house fell apart when I was in the hospital. Its now been 3 months and I feel like all I do is clean and the house still is not as clean and organized as I had had it.

  2. Loved the article and so true. I will look into the girdle thing. Staying organized has been my biggest help and distraction during these last few weeks of pregnancy. and it will be one last worry once baby is born.

I really want to use a girdle to make sure everything is pressed and moves back into place as smooth as it came out of place. My mother and grandmother used a flat sheet and wrapped it around their tummies after they gave birth. So with my mother being there, I’m pretty sure that’ll be my first “girdle” hehehe.

Girdle sounds like a good idea to me. If it helps with pain n no med.s involved I am soooooo for it. I hate pills but during child birth…… give me the drugs.

I thought getting highlights while still pregnant was a big no-no. Something about the fumes and chemicals? Am I wrong?

Very much so. I’m 37 weeks as of now and May 8 (35 weeks) I got highlights browns and blondes using bleach for both colors. Although my stylist didn’t hit my roots, which meant it would touch my scalp, with the colors but I’m fine and my baby is fine inside my tummy.

I agree with All 4 suggestions! I bought a girdle not the same one, but it tucks up my belly so when I go out I feel good because I don’t look pregnant. I hate it when u go out and still look pregnant when you are not anymore. I also had my hubby clean the house before I got out of the hospital, that felt great to come home to. Although it’s been a week since I delivered my princess, I do some light exercises and stretching, makes me feel better. And I def will get my hair done I feel great this time around Thanking God!!!

6 weeks after just before baby’s christening, I ‘ve got a treat of make over from husband. Nice haircut and hair color with pedi and eyebrow shaping! A bit costly but he was satisfied with the results :)

I’m pregnant with my first baby and I know that my body is definitely going to bother me afterwards. I’ve always been very fit and slim and unfortunately know that I will probably hate what my stomach is going to look like post pregnancy so this definitely helped.

I find that I feel better putting on a girdle post birth. it gives me help in reshaping myself after being stretched like silly putty for 9 months.

Reorganizing the house is a great tip, Devan! It’ll be super helpful to clear out old stuff.
