We are having a girl. I nicknamed her Poppy since day one. I thought it was just a cute, silly nickname, but it has become her. We went back and forth about calling her Kendall, Sydney, Mikayla, Charli, etc. But now we plan to name her Poppy Nicole Andrie. 2 months to go !

So I am 11 weeks and 5 days pregnant. We are unsure of the sex yet but my husband is set on Lyric as a boy name and Harmony as a girl name. The only problem is that i hate the name Lyric and I think Harmony sounds more like a fake name for a stripper.. What do I do??

Early in my pregnancy long before I knew what we were having, I picked up my boyfriend from his unwind hang out on a Friday night and we went to a diner. Maybe it was the booze talking in him, but he loved my suggestion that if we had a girl we named her Merryan, our names combined. I wrote it on the back of the diner receipt and kept it- We both even cried at how precious the name was! I know he was a little tipsy, but I seriously thought we had agreed on a girl’s name. I found out we were probably having a baby girl when I received results from the early detection birth defect blood test. Both of our mothers were in town visiting and the phone call was a pleasant surprise for all of us. My boyfriend was incredibly busy and I told both my mother and his that I would not tell them anything besides we had a seemingly healthy baby with no detectable birth defects until I could tell baby’s daddy. When I told him, he didn’t really have a reaction but I don’t think a girl is what either of us expected or wanted. Considering I am 42 and just thrilled to be having a baby when I never thought I would, my brief moment of shocking disappointment lifted when I remembered our beautiful baby girl name. I expected my boyfriend to be excited also when I reminded him of our special night and showed him where I had written “Merryan” down. Unfortunately he wasn’t. And he hasn’t been interested in naming our baby at all. I feel like the princess trying to figure out “Rumplestilksen” with all of the names I have thrown out and researched. I thought when he went with me and saw our baby on ultrasound, and it was positively confirmed we are having a girl, that he may be more enthusiastic about naming our baby. But he isn’t. I’m 20 weeks and cry every day. I need to get excited about this baby! All that’s been missing from my life is a baby, and my boyfriend seemed initially excited, until he found out we are having a girl. Any advice?

Hi Merideth – Sorry to hear you’re feeling as though your partner is not enthusiastic about your pregnancy. I would try to back of the baby naming for just a bit, and focus your energy on putting together the nursery, taking walks, seeing friends, something else that is positive and will make you happy rather than stressing. You still have a while left in your pregnancy so you can figure out a name once you’re feeling happier. Your partner may be feeling disconnected from baby during your pregnancy because they don’t feel any physical changes and many things are about mom at this time. You can try to get him more involved by looking through some of our articles here: http://www.everydayfamily.com/a-dads-guide-to-pregnancy/ and possibly sharing some things with him. Best wishes!

I am having a boy and I was thinking of naming him Jude Maverick I liked Maverick even before I knew it was a boy but don’t want to give him that as a first name and Hey Jude by the beatles came on the radio and I started to consider it for a name. So what does anyone else think I have had suggestions but haven’t liked them

I am pregnant with my third child my fiance wants to ne if its a boy hercules and if a girl athena …what do u think…im ot sure how i feel about hercules

    • Avatar of Megan KlayEditor Megan Klay says:

I personally think Hercules a bit too out there and would be a lot to live up to! Have you considered any other Greek gods or mythological figures? I do like Athena though. :)

      • Avatar of kirsten kirsten says:

Thats what i thought i threw leonidas out there i thought that was better than hercules lol we have a dog named athena so thats my reasoning for not wanting that one i said azlynn for a girl and he says no we just cant seem to agree.. i have plenty of time before baby comes but i liketo have things done well before time especially the name

        • Avatar of Megan KlayEditor Megan Klay says:

Good luck! If you already have a family member (even if they are furry!) with the name Athena then I wouldn’t name your baby that too, but that’s just me. I’m a planner too, but you might find after you meet baby that you feel he/she is meant to be named something different. Who knows!?

Hi Lauren – I recommend keeping those four in mind until you meet him! Maybe once you meet him you’ll know which name suits him best, but not necessarily before. Good luck!

  16. Avatar of Kayla Kayla says:

    Quick question,
My husband really likes the name Madison, but that is my cousins name.
I really like the name Marley or Addison.
    What do yall think?

Is it odd to name your child the same name that your cousin has?

    • Avatar of Kasaundra Kasaundra says:

Was he thinking of calling the baby Maddie or Maddy? If so, maybe Madelyn or Madeline.

    • Avatar of Megan KlayEditor Megan Klay says:

I don’t think it’s odd, if you really like it. And her and her parents would probably be honored! I actually like Marley, although it is pretty different and I always try to considering teasing just because kids can be cruel! Addison could be a very good compromise! If you haven’t decided on a middle name, I think Belle would be cute. Then you can call her ‘Addy Belle’! :)

  17. Avatar of Allison Allison says:

So I got told it looks like I could be having a boy even though I’m barly starting my 15th week, so I dont want to get my heart set on ether one yet since its still to shure to know for certain! But if I is a boy I was real like the idea of Crescendo however my family doesn’t like it! Help I’m pretty set with it I realy like it but I feel like with everyone not liking it I should change it:/ I meen maybe just Cres would be good but idk I dont want to look back and think I should have names my baby what i realy wanted!!!

    • Avatar of Rhianna Rhianna says:

I think that you should go with what makes you happy. You’re the one who will be saying their name the most, so you should like it. Everyone thought my son’s name (Rowan) was weird when I picked it, but it fits him so well. And I didn’t want to be stuck saying a name I didn’t like for the rest of my life.

    • Avatar of Allison Allison says:
